5 Delaware is a bus route operated by the Hamilton Street Railway in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Route Details

5 Delaware is a high-ridership bus route that travels from as far west as Pirie Drive and Governors Road to as far east as Jones Road and King Street that started in 1954. It is considered by some HSR experts to be the most confusing route in the city, due to its 4 branches. Its origins date back to the Dundas-Hamilton belt line.

Branch 5, from Dundas (Pirie and Governors) would head eastbound on Pirie Drive to Davidson Boulevard, where it would go right and southbound to Governors Road, taking Governors Road east to Ogilvie Street, turning right on Ogilvie, left on South Street and right on Osler Drive. It takes Osler Drive/Main Street eastbound to Wellington Street, where it turns right and takes Wellington southbound to Stinson Street, taking that eastbound to Wentworth Street, where it goes one block south to Delaware Avenue, taking that eastbound to Sherman Avenue, where it skips a block to Maplewood Avenue taking that east to Gage Avenue, where it turns right and continues on Lawrence Avenue to Rosslyn Avenue, taking that south to Justine Avenue, which it takes eastbound to King Street. It then takes King Street to St Joseph's Ambulatory Care's main entrance loop, rejoining King and heading eastbound to Mountain Avenue, where it heads to Jones Street terminating at Jones and King. Some trips head to University Plaza or Head Street Loop via Hunter and John Streets.

Branch 5A from Meadowlands/West Hamilton Loop heads west on Golf Links Road to McNiven Road, where it would turn right and take it to Rousseaux Street, taking Rousseaux westbound to Wilson Street. Upon turning right on Wilson would continue eastbound on Wilson Street/Main Street until it reached Whitney Avenue, taking Whitney all the way to Emerson Street and heading into the McMaster Campus. Once it reaches the campus, it continues northbound on University Avenue to Sterling Street, where it then goes eastbound to King Street. It then goes east on King Street until it reaches Longwood Road where it proceeds southbound on Longwood to Main Street, servicing Westdale Secondary School. It then heads eastbound on Main Street to Wellington Street, where it turns right and takes Wellington southbound to Stinson Street, taking that eastbound to Wentworth Street, where it goes one block south to Delaware Avenue, taking that eastbound to Sherman Avenue, where it skips a block to Maplewood Avenue taking that east to Gage Avenue, where it turns right and continues on Lawrence Avenue to Rosslyn Avenue, taking that south to Justine Avenue, which it takes eastbound to King Street. It then takes King Street to Cochrane Road, terminating at Cochrane and Greenhill Avenue. Every 5A/5C trip alternates western termination points. For an example, one trip would head west to West Hamilton Loop where it would short-turn, whereas other trips would head up to the Meadowlands Terminal.

Branch 5E, from Dundas (Head Street Loop) would head eastbound on Mill Street to Wellington Street, then left on Hatt Street, taking Hatt to Bond Street where it would meet up with King Street. It would continue eastbound on King to Dundas Street, where it would go right and westbound on Governors Road to Ogilvie Street, turning left on Ogilvie, left on South Street and right on Osler Drive. It takes Osler Drive/Main Street eastbound to Ottawa Street, where it turns right and takes Ottawa southbound to King Street. It then takes King Street to Greenhill Avenue, where it terminates at Quigley Road.
