Gold Coast Transit serves the Ventura County area in California, including Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ojai, and the adjoining areas of unincorporated Ventura County. It began service on July 1, 2007.
Gold Coast Transit has a service area covering 91 square miles with an estimated population of 375,000 individuals[1]. In 2009, Gold Coast Transit served an estimated 3.65 million passenger boardings with a fleet of 46 buses (35 and 40 foot lengths) as well as 24 cutaway vans for paratransit service; all these vehicles are powered by compressed natural gas[1]. Gold Coast Transit operates its own compressed natural gas fueling station[1].
History
- The system was formerly known as South Coast Area Transit (SCAT) from 1973-2007.
- On July 1, 2014, this system was renamed Gold Coast Transit District.
