Following early production of the E901A for BC Transit, Flyer Industries chose to give the buses the designation E902 onward. BC Transit and the city of Vancouver had requested the buses have a double stream front door as the buses would be used on high ridership routes with constant boardings and de-boardings. The 902 designation would distinguish buses with the shorter wheelbase and wider front door from the original design of the D901.
