Line 15 Mascouche is a commuter rail line operated by Réseau de transport métropolitain in the Greater Montreal, QC area.

Details

Line 15 operates between Gare Mascouche and Gare Centrale in downtown Montréal. Trains operate over the CN Joliette, Montreal, St-Laurent, exo Train de l'Est, and QGRY Trois-Rivières subdivisions.

Service operates Mondays to Fridays only. Most departures are during rush hours in the peak direction, with one midday round-trip and one early evening round-trip. Trains are operated with diesel locomotives (either Bombardier ALP-45DP, GMDD F59PH or F59PHI) using 5 to 6 car consists of Bombardier MultiLevel double-deck coaches. Consists are stored at the Mascouche Yard (parallel to Gare Mascouche) during the night. Daytime storage and heavy maintenance takes place at the Pointe-Saint-Charles Maintenance Centre. Once the future Côte-de-Liesse station opens up, trains will be stored at the Côte-de-Liesse Yard (east of Gare Côte-de-Liesse) during the day.

History

The Mascouche line was opened as a brand-new commuter line on December 1, 2014. Unlike other lines, this line did not have any prior commuter service, and required the construction of 13km of new railway track along with upgrades to the Mont-Royal tunnel to allow for double-deck coaches.

Service initially ran through the Mont Royal tunnel into Gare Centrale, which required the use of dual-mode locomotives; trains operated in diesel mode to Ahuntsic. Commuter service through the Mont Royal tunnel ended in May 2020, to allow for its conversion to support REM. Some peak Mascouche trains were rerouted to Gare Centrale via western Montreal, while others terminate at Ahuntsic.

The AMT was abolished in June 2017 and was replaced by the Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM). Shortly after, in July, Bombardier Transport took over the operation and maintenance of all commuter trains. The Mascouche line was rebranded as "exo5 - Mascouche line" upon introduction of the exo branding in 2018. The number was adjusted again in 2023 to "Line 15 Mascouche". A new simplified region-wide fare zone was introduced in July 2024, which replaced the older fare zones (1 through 6); Line 15 is now within zones A and C.
