Line 14 Candiac is a commuter rail line operated by Réseau de transport métropolitain in the Greater Montreal, QC area.

Details

Line 14 operates between Gare Candiac and Gare Lucien L'Allier in downtown Montréal. Trains operate over the CP Adirondack and Westmount subdivisions.

Service operates Monday to Friday only. Most departures are during rush hours in the peak direction; one trainset provides two round-trips during weekday middays. Trains are operated with diesel locomotives (GMDD F59PHI) using 3 to 4 car consists of Bombardier MultiLevel double-deck coaches. Consists are stored overnight at the Delson Yard (east of Gare Delson), while heavy maintenance and daytime storage takes place at Lachine Maintenance Centre.

History

Commuter service on the line was previously operated by Canadian Pacific Railway as the "South-Eastern Line" from 1887 until 1980.

Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) reopened the line between Gare Centrale and Delson on September 4, 2001, initially as a temporary measure following construction on parallel highways. Service was extended to Candiac in 2005, with the extension being made permanent in July 2009.

Service was initially operated using single-level cars. Bombardier MultiLevel double-deck coaches were introduced in 2009-10. MultiLevel coaches were banned by CP in September 2013, due to concerns of instability in high wind conditions on the Saint-Laurent bridge; all trips were then performed by the 700-series single-level Comet coaches. Following retirement of the Comet coaches in 2022, MultiLevel cars were reintroduced.

The AMT was abolished in June 2017 and was replaced by the Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM). Shortly after, in July, Bombardier Transport took over the operation and maintenance of all commuter trains. The Candiac line was rebranded as "exo4 - Candiac line" upon introduction of the exo branding in 2018. The number was adjusted again in 2023 to "Line 14 Candiac". A new simplified region-wide fare zone was introduced in July 2024, which replaced the older fare zones (1 through 5); Line 14 is now within zones A and C.
