History
Edmonton Transit System came into existence on April 29, 1947 after being renamed from Edmonton Transportation System. From 1976-1993, the system was referred to simply as Edmonton Transit. On November 14, 2016, the system was renamed to Edmonton Transit Service. It was originally founded in 1908 as the Edmonton Radial Railway.
Preservation
- ETS preserves a large fleet of historic vehicles. The oldest is a 1932 Leyland Cub, and the newest is a 2013 El Dorado Passport cutaway. It is rumored that at least one Siemens-DüWag U2 light rail vehicle will be preserved as well. The historic fleet includes:
- 4 operable and restored trolleybuses
- 5 operable but unrestored trolleybuses
- 12 operational conventional buses
- 3 operational cutaway buses
- 2 parts buses
- One tow truck
- The Edmonton Radial Railway Society owns 9 ex. Edmonton Radial Railway streetcars, 4 of which are operational.
- TRAMS owns one Edmonton 'Fishbowl Trolleybus,' and has the ability to run it on Coast Mountain Bus Company wires.
- The Seashore Trolley Museum and the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft each own a 'Fishbowl Trolleybus' as well, which they each run on their own wires.
- The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority bought two trolleys from Edmonton in 1993, 109 and 110. 110 is now a part of their historical fleet.
- The Fraser Valley Historical Railway Society owns an electric locomotive that was once a part of Edmonton's LRT support fleet.

Transfers are available and are valid for 90 minutes on any route, except 560, 580, and 747.
