This route originates at the Ajax GO Station and terminates at Taunton Road where this route then interlines with Route 225 Audley North. The 224 services major residential areas within southeastern Ajax as well as Downtown Ajax and many commercial areas such as Durham Centre and Harwood Plaza. The 224 also serves Lakeridge Health Ajax Hospital located at Clements Avenue and Harwood Avenue. This route has a major connection with DRT Pulse at Kingston Road and Salem Road.
This route has one branch
- 224 Harwood-Salem (Ajax GO Station - Salem Road at Dunwell Crescent)
- June 27, 2016 - Regional council and the Transit Executive Committee approved this route and many other service changes to be implemented. Service on Harwood Avenue previously was provided by route 224 Harwood and service on Pickering Beach was provided by the old routing of Route 218 Beach. There was no service on Salem Road between Bayly Street and Mandrake Street. Due to growing demand on Salem Road and Pickering Beach Road, route 224 was created to provide service as an individual service would fall below ridership standards.
- September 4th 2017 - Route 224 was added to the Durham Region Transit High Frequency Network and was given 30 minute minimum frequencies seven days a week until 19:00.
