Durham Region Transit Victoria Division
Durham Region Transit's Victoria Division was a bus garage located at 1559 Victoria St E. in Whitby. This garage serviced conventional and Specialized Services vehicles running in Whitby with the exception of some routes. This location also houses and maintains Coach Canada's school buses and minibuses. There is no indoor vehicle storage at this facility and it has only two repair bays with a small office upstairs for staff. This facility is very small, and is at full capacity. This division was known as Centre prior to 2009
The contract for operations in Whitby is a continuation of when the town of Whitby contracted with Trentway-Wagar (Coach Caanada) to operate Whitby Transit. The facility belongs to Trentway-Wagar, but the buses belong to Durham Region. DRT chose to renew the contract with Trentway-Wagar in November 2007. It was extended one more year in 2009 to April 22, 2011 and again in 2010 to October 11, 2011. For the new bid to operate service in Whitby, it was combined with the contract to operate the northern communities. A tender was put out in February 2011 for the operation of services in the Town of Whitby and the Townships of Uxbridge, Scugog and Brock. Five parties responded: Coach Canada, Diversified Transportation, Miller Transit, Tokmakjian (Can-ar Coach Service), and Veolia Transportation.
In April 2016, the Region issued a new request for proposals for the operation of transit in Whitby and the northern communities. Six compliant proposals were received from Miller Transit, MV Transportation, PWTransit Canada, Ride Right, TOK Transit, and Trentway-Wagar. After a detailed evaluation, PWTransit had scored the highest. They were awarded the five-year contract with options for two one-year extensions. The contract took effect on January 2, 2017.
Since January 2017, DRT no longer houses their buses at this site. They have since been relocated to the new Wentworth Garage
