Durham Region Transit 8174-8180
Durham Region Transit 8174-8180 were Nova Bus LFS buses built in 1999 and acquired by DRT in 2007. These buses were originally operated by First Transit for the Philadelphia International Airport Shuttle. DRT issued a tender in May 2006 for eight second hand buses no older than 16 years. By July 2006, DRT was in negotiations with what is believed to be Transit Sales International for the purchase of seven second hand buses. At this time, a deal was reached with Capital Bus Parts for the purchase of the eight bus, an Orion V that became 8066.
DRT initially had trouble reprogramming the destination signs, and thus they still had their old readings and could display any DRT routes. This problem was resolved in 2008. In early 2009, 8175 was spotted with a new amber LED destination sign. In the summer of 2009, 8175 and 8176 received fold-out wheelchair ramps in lieu of the telescopic ramps these buses were built with. Other buses soon followed. All buses have driver operated rear doors.
