Cummins ISB
The Cummins ISB is an inline 4- or 6-cylinder diesel engine used in commercial passenger vehicles. The 4-cylinder engine has a displacement of 4.5 litres, and the 6-cylinder engine has a displacement of 6.7 litres. Prior to the update to meet the EPA 2007 and Euro 4 standards, the engine was available in displacements of 3.9 or 5.9 litres.
The Cummins B Series engine was updated in 1998 with four valves per cylinder, Bosch VP44 injection pumps, and new electronics under Cummins' Interact System. The engine was renamed the ISB (for Interact System). For the 2003 model year, the ISB was introduced with Bosch high pressure common rail fuel injection and increased power output. The EPA 2007 ISB introduced a variable geometry turbocharger and active particulate filter as standard. To further reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) levels to EPA 2010 and Euro 4 standards, Cummins employed selective catalytic reduction (SCR). The EPA 2010 ISB, known as the ISB6.7, is only available as a 6-cylinder engine. It received EPA 2010 certification on January 8, 2010. The EPA 2013 and Euro 6 have On-Board Diagnostics to monitor emissions-related engine systems.
