Comox Valley Regional Transit System
Comox Valley Transit System serves the Comox Valley area in British Columbia. Communities served include Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Royston, Buckley Bay, Fanny Bay, Union Bay, Deep Bay, Oyster River, Merville, and Comox Airport. Connections to the Campbell River Transit System to the North can be made at Oyster River, while southbound Connections to the Regional District of Nanaimo Transit System are available at Deep Bay. The system serves both Little River and Buckley Bay Ferry Terminals, which connect to Powell River on the Sunshine Coast and Denman Island respectively via BC Ferries.
Local funding and governance is the provided by Comox Valley Regional District. Provincial funding, fleet resources, planning and administration support are provided by BC Transit. Operations of services are contracted to PW Transit.[1]
History
- August 1, 1981 Comox Paratransit System begins fixed route and limited door to door accessible service. Services contracted to Watson and Ash Transport Ltd.
- July 23, 1990 Original Paratransit system replaced by Comox Valley Transit System (conventional fixed route) and Comox Valley Custom Transit (HandyDART). Services contracted to Watson and Ash Transport Ltd.
- 2018 Comox Valley becomes the second system to implement NextRide technology on their conventional buses.[2]
