Commercial Truck Equipment Co. is a Canadian supplier of truck equipment, and former manufacturer of cutaway buses under the name Commercial Body Builders Ltd.
History
In 1947, Commercial Body Builders Ltd. was established in Vancouver, BC. The company thrived in the manufacturing of truck bodies for telecommunication, hydro, mining, construction, forestry, retail, and service companies.
During the 1990s, the company began to diversify, beginning to produce equipment for the Canadian Military, General Motors, and several large US based utility companies. It also manufactured armored trucks and established the Bus Division following its acquisition of a bus body manufacturer.
Throughout the 2000s and early 2010s, the company acquired various truck equipment suppliers. Due to a lack of demand, the Bus Division was closed in June 2010 and CBB no longer competed in the bus industry. The Bus Division built and delivered its last complete vehicle, BC Transit 2238, in 2009.
In 2013, Commercial Body Builders and all of its acquisitions merged to form one unified company: Commercial Truck Equipment Co., and restructured itself as a distributor of truck equipment. It has since acquired several competitors.
