This is an east-west NightBus route connecting the University of British Columbia and Downtown Vancouver. Service runs daily every 30 minutes during the late-night hours in lieu of regular 14 Downtown/UBC service. On weekdays and Saturdays, there are five westbound trips running 20–30 minutes apart and three westbound trips on Sundays/holidays every 30 minutes. There are three eastbound trips daily running 30 minutes apart.
Eastbound trips depart from the University of British Columbia heading south on Wesbrook Mall, east on University Boulevard becoming W. 10th Avenue, north on Alma Street, east on W. Broadway, north on Granville Street and across the Granville Street Bridge and north on Seymour Street to Seymour Street & Robson Street.
Westbound trips depart from Seymour Street & Robson Street heading north on Seymour Street, west on W. Pender Street, south on Granville Street, west on W. Georgia Street, south on Howe Street, south on Granville Street and across the Granville Street Bridge, then west on W. Broadway, south on Alma Street, and west on W. 10th Avenue becoming University Boulevard, and north on Wesbrook Mall to the Univerity of British Columbia.
Pre-2001 - Service operated as an Owl Service component of the 10 Downtown/UBC
October 2001 - All Owl routes cancelled due to funding shortfall[1]
July 2003 - Service introduced as N17 UBC/Downtown running every 30 minutes on Friday and weekend/holiday nights[2]
June 2004 - Service expanded to run six nights a week from Monday to Saturday[3]
December 2004 - Service expanded to end at 3:10AM along with Sunday service
April 2006 - Service rerouted due to construction of the Canada Line; service revised to operate northbound along Seymour and southbound along Howe and service on Granville Street in Downtown Vancouver discontinued; service to terminate at new bus bays on Howe between Georgia and Hastings instead of at Granville & Georgia[4]
September 2006 - Introduction of an additional westbound trip starting at W. Broadway & Granville Street running Monday–Saturday
February 1–28, 2010 - Vancouver 2010 Olympic service: Introduction of additional trips to provide 24-hour service between Downtown Vancouver and UBC along the Broadway corridor[5]
September 2010 - Monday–Saturday extra westbound trip revised to start at Howe Street & Nelson Street
April 2018 - Extra westbound trip that started from Howe & Nelson revised to travel full route. The last westbound weekday trip revised to run on Fridays and Saturdays only
June 2018 - Consolidation of NightBus routes to the NightBus District at Vancouver City Centre Station results in downtown terminus being revised from Howe & Pender to Seymour & Robson. Southbound routing revised from via Howe and Granville to via Seymour, Hastings, Granville, Georgia, Howe, Granville
April 24–May 14, 2020 - Service suspended as part of cost-saving measures due to low ridership relating to the COVID-19 pandemic[6]
September 2020 - Last westbound trip that ran on Fridays and Saturdays only revised to run Monday–Saturday
April 2023 - UBC terminus temporarily revised to diesel loop instead of the trolley loop due to construction on University Boulevard
September 2023 - UBC terminus revised to remain in the diesel loop permanently in response to customer feedback
