Coast Mountain Bus Company 18001–18063 are a set of 63 New Flyer Industries XDE60 units built in 2018–2019.

History

These are the first series ordered for TransLink's RapidBus service, an improved and expanded version of the former B-Line network (excluding the 99, which remains a B-Line) with unique branding and liveries since the D60LFRs and 2000 D60LFs, respectively. These are also the first Xcelsior units in the fleet to feature all-LED headlights, dual side signs and BAE HybriDrive systems. Additionally, they feature increased seat padding.

30 units were wrapped with artwork as part of the How Far Do You Travel? public art program partnership between TransLink and the Contemporary Art Gallery, featuring works by five Canadian artists: Diyan Achjadi, Patrick Cruz, Rolande Souliere, Erdem Tasdelen, and Anna Torma. The remaining 33 units entered service ad-wrapped to preserve the new livery and branding for its debut.

This meant that this batch was the first to entirely enter service with an ad-wrap. Most units had their wraps removed for the introduction of RapidBus service within the first 2 weeks of January 2020.

Four units from this order were part of the initial six buses to be fitted with Wi-Fi as part of the TransLink Wi-Fi program in October 2021. Installation of Wi-Fi on additional units in this series began in early 2022 and all units were fitted with Wi-Fi by early 2023.

Starting in March 2021, an extra set of fleet numbers was placed above the front doors and the driver window. This was done as the original placement of the side fleet numbers was often obscured by advertisements and was in a location that was hard to locate for operators while in the yard. This was only a problem for coaches in the RapidBus livery because of the inclusion of the RapidBus logo in the location that would otherwise have the fleet number. This has since been standardized for future bus orders with the RapidBus livery.

Deployment

This series is based out of Hamilton and Port Coquitlam and can be found on any RapidBus routes operated by these depots.

Depending on operational requirements, these buses may also occasionally appear on the following routes:

• 160 Port Coquitlam Station/Kootenay Loop
• 701 Coquitlam Central Station/Maple Ridge East
• N9 Coquitlam Central Station/Downtown NightBus

When this series was delivered, it was entirely based out of Burnaby. With the transfer of 43 operations in September 2019 to Hamilton, units 18001–18023 were transferred out. Simultaneously, units began to be transferred to Surrey. The next move occurred in November 2019 with units transferring to Port Coquitlam.

In the summer of 2019, some units were loaned to Vancouver to address a minor fleet shortage due to New Flyer E60LFR units undergoing refurbishment works.

Unit 18053, the last one to be based out of Burnaby, was transferred to Hamilton in December 2023.

Some units based out of Surrey were reallocated to Hamilton ahead of the January 2024 launch of the R6 Scott Road RapidBus. Some were also reallocated to Port Coquitlam with that depot taking over some R1 King George Boulevard RapidBus trippers from Surrey in January 2024 as well. With the transfer of all operations for the R1 from Surrey and Port Coquitlam to Hamilton in September 2024, the entire Surrey sub-fleet was reallocated to Hamilton.
