Coast Mountain Bus Company 16001–16051

Coast Mountain Bus Company 16001–16051 are a set of 51 2016 model New Flyer Industries XN40 units built in 2016–2017.

History

Delivery of this series began in October 2016. These feature the same interior seating arrangement as their XD40 counterparts delivered in the same year. These units were the first new buses to be allocated to Hamilton Transit Centre, which opened in September 2016 and is the second depot in the network to be equipped with a CNG fuelling facility.

Driver barriers were gradually installed on all units starting in October 2019.

Starting in January 2021, the headlight assemblies on all units were gradually upgraded to newer all-LED assemblies as found on 18001–18063 and later sets of Xcelsiors.

Deployment

This entire series is based out of Port Coquitlam and can be found on any conventional bus route operated by these depots.

Initially, this entire series was allocated to Hamilton only. Some operated in Port Coquitlam in December 2016 due to a sudden bus shortage caused by broken axles on their 3300 series coaches. The consistency of the entire series, which was based out of Hamilton, began to break up in June 2021 with the transfer of units 16049–16051 to Port Coquitlam. This was followed by the transfer of additional units to Surrey in April and September 2022 and in April 2024 to address service expansion.

As part of a system-wide fleet shuffle in September 2024, a majority of units based in Surrey began to be reallocated to Port Coquitlam starting at the end of August. By the end of the first week of September, only units 16011, 16038, and 16042 remained in Surrey. 16039 was the last unit to be based out of Hamilton and transferred to Port Coquitlam in late January 2025. As part of a shuffling of the CNG fleet to coincide with the retirement of some 3300-series C40LFR coaches in Port Coquitlam and the introduction of Nova Bus coaches in Surrey, the final three units allocated to Surrey – 16011, 16038, and 16042 – were transferred to Port Coquitlam.
