Originally the York Adams Transportation Authority, the Central Pennsylvania Transportation Authority is now a multi-county authority charged with the oversight of public transportation, shared-ride services and transportation management for central Pennsylvania.

It's first two subsidiaries are Rabbit Transit (of York, PA) and Freedom Transit (of Gettysburg, PA), in addition to each counties shared-ride services. Later, the authority picked up shared-ride services of Cumberland, Franklin, Northumberland, Columbia, Union, Snyder and Montour Counties.

  • 2011: York Adams Transportation Authority created to serve transportation needs of York and Adams counties.
  • 2015: YATA renamed Central Pennsylvania Transportation Authority with the addition of Cumberland, Franklin and Northumberland counties. In late 2015, Columbia county is added to the agency.
  • 2016: On July 1, CPTA adds Union, Snyder and Montour counties to the agency.

Adams

In addition, CPTA manages the county shared-ride service, and oversees operations of the Gettysburg Transfer Center, located at 103 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg. At the transfer center, Freedom Transit buses can connect with Rabbit Transit (Express) buses to Harrisburg.

Columbia

Added in late 2015, CPTA manages the county shared-ride service.

Cumberland

Added in 2015, CPTA manages the county shared-ride service.

Franklin

Added in 2015, CPTA manages the county shared-ride service.

Montour

Added in July of 2016, CPTA manages the county shared-ride service.

Northumberland

Snyder

Union
