History
Created in 2002, the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority is the successor to the South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), which had control over transit operations up until September 2002. For the next decade, the CMRTA would rely on the tax revenue of the citizens of its service area as well as the SCE&G to run. In 2013, CMRTA went under a rebranding and became The COMET.
