Cardinal Coach Lines was a bus company based in Calgary, AB. They operated transportation services in the commuter, employee, student, and transit sectors. They were acquired by FirstGroup plc in 2005.

History

  • April 1, 1947: Cardinal Coach Lines (Cardinal) is founded by Gerald "Jerry" Lloyd Weber. The single-bus company provides a round trip service between Red Deer, AB and Consort, AB.
  • 1949: Cardinal moves its office to Calgary.
  • 1958: Cardinal launches its first school routes in Calgary.
  • 1971: Cardinal sells off its remaining central Alberta commuter routes to focus on its Calgary school bus operations.
  • 1981: Cardinal launches its Airporter and Airdrie Commuter services.
  • 1985: Cardinal's bus fleet reaches 410 vehicles.
  • 2008: The application of First Student Canada and First Canada decals begins on school buses and commuter coaches respectively.
  • 2016: FirstGroup plc purchases the remaining 49% of Cardinal, and the brand is officially phased out.
