Caltrain 900-919 are 1985-87 EMD F40PH-2 locomotives.

They were originally purchased by Caltrans to replace the equipment provided by Southern Pacific Railroad on the Peninsula Corridor service.

The locomotives were substantially rebuilt by Alstom in 1999. Fifteen of the units had their HEP alternator replaced with a separate CAT generator, and were reclassified as F40PH-2CAT; the remaining five units retained their HEP alternators coming off of the main prime mover.
