History

  • In September 1946 the British Columbia Electric Railway Company purchased Blue Line Transit Ltd from founder Harold Sorenson for approximately $500,000. The deal included 31 used buses, the license to operated transit buses in the municipality of Oak Bay (at the time of the purchase Blue Line operated four routes between downtown Victoria and Oak Bay), Blue Line's 8 route Nanaimo transit system, the rights to the name Royal Blue Line, and a Car Rental Company (Blue U-Drive, renamed Island U-Drive and operated as a subsiduary of BCER until its sale in 1950.
  • From Sept. 1946 until the final conversion of the Victoria Streetcar system in 1948, the former Oak Bay routes continued to operate under the Blue Line Transit brand, although transfers were allowed between the BLT and BCE branded routes, excluding discount "5c fares" introduced by the previous operator.
  • After 1948 the Blue Line name lived on as BCE's victoria sightseeing operations were rebranded as "Royal Blue Line Motor Tours".
