Altoona Metro Transit

Altoona Metro Transit or AMTRAN (officially Transportation and Motor Buses for Public Use Authority) is the public transit service for the City of Altoona and Blair County, Pennsylvania.

History

  • Became the first transit authority in Pennsylvania in October 1959, taking over from the Logan Valley Bus Company.
  • Started off using the name Altoona & Logan Township Bus Authority, changed to the current name in March 1977.
  • Running of the system was contracted to ATE Management & Services from 1975 until March 1997.

  • 400 & 405 retired in June 2015 and were the last active units. They were put up for auction on 10/21/2015.
    • 400 was bought by a private owner and is preserved. It also was retrofitted with an Allison B400R transmission by AMTRAN at an unknown time. It is also unknown if any other units were retrofitted.
    • 405 was bought by a scrap yard.
  • 402 is preserved by the Museum of Bus Transportation in Hershey, PA.
