The Allison PTS Series of transmissions are designed for "Pupil Transport & Shuttle" (PTS) duties. Each type is available in 5 or 6 speeds, with the exception of the 3000 PTS, which is only available as a 6-speed. The 3000 PTS can also be equipped with an optional hydraulic retarder.

There are nine models in the PTS Series.
The main differences between them are listed below.

xFE and non-xFE

As is available on the Allison Bus Series of transmissions, xFE (which stands for 'Extra Fuel Economy')[1] can be added to almost all versions of the PTS Series. xFE-model transmissions aim to improve fuel economy, with features such as Dynamic Shift Sensing, Neutral at Stop, and Acceleration Rate Management, as well as optimized gear ratios and Allison's FuelSense® Max electronic control package.
