BusFanForever
Some of us has been noticing that quite a few ELFs have been rebuilt or refurbrished. So this thread is for any Wheel-trans bus spotted rebuilt. The only bus I can confirm rebuilt is 9773. If the bus is underlined, that means it has been spotted rebuilt. So far Only one: 9750-9889- 9773 They have been rebuilding them for quite a while now. I'm guessing at least half of them have been completed so far. BCT-3122-D800-10240
They have been rebuilding them for quite a while now. I'm guessing at least half of them have been completed so far. During my trip this past week to the GTA, I heard that the TTC is looking for replacement vehicles for the ELF buses as well. So it should be interesting to see how long these refurbished units last. IIRC the ELF refurbishment is only to keep service levels at the same level for the next 2-3 years until all the is replaced
smallspy
Let's bring this thread back to life, shall we? First off, remove 9750 from the list. It was retired several years ago, around the same time as the last of the Orion II's. Here's the ELF's that I've seen rebuilt over the past couple of months: 9752, 9778, 9780, 9794, 9796, 9801, 9808, 9815, 9817, 9824, 9829, 9839, 9844, 9854, 9889 Dan

smallspy
How do you tell rebuilt ones from the unrebuilt ones? As mentioned above, the rebuilt units have two amber strobe lights at the back above the rear doors. They also receive larger rear brake lights above the door, and lose their upper red stripe on the sides (although I think there is one that still has it). Of course, the really easy way to tell is the lack of rust around the rear door. Dan

Orion VIII
If a complete lack of rust and "nice" appearance means that it's rebuilt, 9871 is. I know I saw a 9750something yesterday that looked like absolute garbage, so this is quite distinguished.
2044
I think the delivery of the new wheel-trans buses should be a different thread.

Dan Is the rear light before rebuild a strip, and now is it a larger rectangle? I remember seeing both types of rear lights recently. I'll keep an eye out, Ryerson campus seems to have a lot of Wheel Trans vehicles around it. On that note, are there any pics? It doesn't seem like the ELFs are widely photographed. wil9402
On that note, are there any pics? It doesn't seem like the ELFs are widely photographed. I have a couple of ELF photos. I'm slowly trying to expand my collection of them though along with the Orion IIs so that I have a reasonable amount to add a Wheel-Trans/Community Bus section to my website which will hopefully happen within the next couple months. smallspy
Is the rear light before rebuild a strip, and now is it a larger rectangle? I remember seeing both types of rear lights recently. The very last order of 15 or so may have been delivered with a long strip of LED's - I honestly can't remember right now - but the rest of them had a small 2-LED box mounted just above the door, underneath the overhang. They are getting long strips as part of the rebuild. Dan
D40-90
It seems as if TTC is suppose to have 41 by the end of the year, and 69 for next year. So be on the look out.

Bus_Medic
I wonder if they resolved the problem with the center being too low for clearance? that one's news to me.... secondly, the rear is full air suspension, the front is air assisted leaf springs it i'm not mistaken. meaning that changing the ride height is no more complex than adjusting the levelling valve settings.
