Um, the tracks were never lifted. The only thing that happened was that the switches accessing the Don branch were spiked. The lot of work is what CP wants on the Belleville sub before they allow GO service.
Shaun
I recently stumbled on these pictures of the DMU's on the old BC Rail line. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=576169&nseq=3 Do these not run on shared tracks with Freight traffic? Do they not have to meet FRA Crash standards?

Those railbuses are rather regarded as "track units", hence their former numbers (TU-108, -109). They were custom-built in Sacramento, CA. 7 hours ago, Shaun said: Do these not run on shared tracks with Freight traffic? No. They are even scheduled to meet with larger rolling stock at sidings. However, I don't believe there was any public announcement from Metrolinx.

With traffic down in North America any extra track space is being used to store locos and cars.

That would explain why CN started using the sidings at Clarke on the Kingston sub for storage again.
skyfirenet
Does the roadswitcher for the Uxbridge sub originate out of Mimico or MacMillan yard? CRO is reporting that ONR 1409 and 842 are on the move to the YDHR and I'm hoping to catch them before they reach Stouffville.

The locomotive and cars are stored beside the Amazon warehouse not far from my house. The equipment was moved around and some of the tarps were removed a few weeks back, but otherwise not much seems to be happening. That being said I don’t believe they are safe by any means. If memory serves there is also an open air coach that used to be used on the Royal Hudson Train and a exCPR Fast Mail car in the mix there. Would be a shame if they ended up being scrapped. All the coaches and a VIA exCN steam generator car have had their tarps removed. 4 coaches (3 6-axel coaches and a 4-axel ex VIA coach) have been loaded onto flat cars. The locomotive was previously stored inside so I can't confirm if it is even present.

webfil
Gouvernement du Québec will invest 315 M$ over the next year in rail infrastructure (it's 10% of the infrastructure budget). Greatest sum (85M$) is allotted to Chemin de fer de la Gaspésie, which suffered from major washouts due to Arthur and Irene hurricanes, as well as several autumnal tidal surges. The money will cover some reconstruction and perhaps some rerouting between Port-Daniel and Caplan, giving access to some major industries, a concrete plant among them. The railway in Chandler. Photo : Radio-Canada Other investments : Québec Central Railway maintenance; Roberval subdivision extension beyond the Mistassini River in Dolbeau-Mistassini. I believe the Maria-Chapdelaine RCM, not the CN, is the sponsor of this extension, for it will serve some medium and heavy industries in Mistassini, as well as an intermodal node; Speaking of intermodality, the Baie-Comeau intermodal facilities will get its share of the dough. It's quite critical, as while the truck ferry is unreliable, the rail ferry is healthy and running; Some funding for the Lac-Mégantic bypass.
