From Altoona website:

Nova LFS (3G) test report

Nova LFS Artic test report

Interestingly, the Artic demo (looks like the one displayed at Trans-Expo 07) is listed to have Cummins ISL 330/Allison B500R, but looking at the pictures, it clearly has a BATTERY PACK. Maybe it was converted to hybrid and then back to straight diesel again? Who knows.

EDIT: found the test report for 40ft LFS as well, this one is listed as ISL 280/Voith and yet it has battery packs as well. Weird.

The battery packs on those diesel LFS are likely just to show where they would be and incorporated into the rear design. The two buses tested are some of the first LFS buses built with the new rear. As the reports say, these are purly diesel powered buses and not diesel-electric hybrids.

Heh, it looks good with the battery pack enclosure - LFX headlights too. You are right that those compartments could be empty though.

Not exactly the headlights from the LFX (though those are just the projector option with a reflective background). The ones on the LFS Artic tested, have a matte silver background.

Perhaps, but Voith is also planning to have their Hybrid propulsion as well.

Likely they are empty and just to show the placement. Also Nova is quite pleased with the Allison hybrid system, and from what I've been told, doesn't have much interest in using hybrid systems from other manufacturers.

Myabe in the future some transit will go for another brand.

An interesting image in the current issue of Metro Magazine: http://metromag.epubxpress.com/wps/portal/...An_w3r92c!/

The Nova Bus advert shows an LFS with a full length roof fairing. Perhaps this will be a future option or extension of the LFX roof fairing. It doesn't look too bad, but it also looks fine without.

I think Strathcona's 3rd gen LFS hybrids looked a bit cluttered with everything on the roof and I had been thinking some sort of shroud would be good to make everything a bit smoother looking.

Hawaii is taking 24 for 2012. This will be the first as they were a Gillig and new flyer customer for years. I am still kind of shocked and wonder why the change all of a sudden? anyone out there know?

Oh, I thought it was for 2010.

Maybe they wanted a change in their fleet!

There is no need to quote all the post, just select the 40ft part and that's it!

They might have been the lowest bidder?

Well it is 2010, as per the NovaBUS press release:

The City of Honolulu has placed an order valued at $10 million for 24 Nova LFS buses, with options on additional vehicles. The buses will be assembled in Nova Bus’ upstate New York plant and delivered in late 2010.
