Novas I am currently keeping track of all 3rd gen deliveries across Canada. Can you add, on the "Awaiting delivery" list, that STL Levis will be receiving 13 Novabus LFS 3rd gen, in October-November, #0901 to #0913. Looks like more TAs in the US are considering buying Novas in the future! Here's more info: TARC to Host 2010 Emissions ProjectKCFC member TARC (Transit Authority of River City) has teamed with Cummins, Inc and Nova Bus to provide actual performance data of 2010 emissions compliant transit equipment in Louisville. The NOVA LFS unit is equipped with an ISL 280 hp engine that employs Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) consists of a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) dosing system, a decomposition reactor, an SCR catalyst and electronic controls. As exhaust passes from the Cummins Particulate Filter into the SCR system, it is sprayed with a fine mist of DEF. This fluid works to transform NOx into harmless nitrogen gas and water vapor. There is a DEF tank and a dash lamp to indicate when the DEF fluid gets low provided by the OEM. The system is designed to work via the ECM with no driver interaction (other than monitoring the DEF fluid levels, much the same as monitoring fuel levels). The Electronic Control Module (ECM) will monitor the emissions output and signal for injection of the DEF fluid whenever necessary to keep the Nox levels at the appropriate levels. Although Cummins operates this system in longer range applications, stop and go transit data TARC can provide is needed. Cummins estimates a December 2009 data gathering completion. We have 29s 072 - 121 in service this far, minus 29s 087 & 098. Also, 29s 117 and up all have new specs, which include digital run boxes, full-length side displays, new seats, and PA systems. Has anyone else has spotted 3rd gens with these new specs running with other transit systems? Also, 29-804 was the first Nova Artic to enter service yesterday. vivablue5215 Posted October 1, 2009 Report Share Posted October 1, 2009 I rode a GRT 3rd gen yesterday, and I must say, I don't see what's so good about them. The engine on the 3rd gens, at least in the GRT ones, are MUCH louder than the 2nd gens (not sure about the *cringe* 1st gens, as I've avoided them for now). Not to mention, sitting at the back taking a video of the ride, I had to plug my ears for most of the video, as it was just too loud. Also, the rear door clicking noise (interlock?) is MUCH louder on the 3rd gens than the 2nd gens. While the 2nd gens sound like a simple click sound, the 3rd gens sound like a *BANG* sound when the bus accelerates (and comes to a stop). I found it okay at first, but as the ride progressed (I was on the bus for about 45 minutes), I got very annoyed. Overall, I'd stick to the 2nd gens anyday (except the 24xx). The only good thing I like about the 3rd gens, perhaps, are those InSight seats at the rear (I can't stand Aries seats as I have back problems). It was running on route 69 Gouin all day. According to STM figures, there could be as many as 231 40-footers delivered in 2009, of which 160 should be 3rd gen (29-072 to 29-231?).
