Wouldn't those be easier to make bi-directional? The three Panorama Domes are usually used on the Skeena, which requires two trainsets. So there isn't exactly any spares available. I haven't been inside a Panorama Dome car, so I can't confirm whether the seats reverse; if one assumes they are set up like the rest of the fleet, it means using them on the Ocean wouldn't solve any of the problems currently faced by using a Skyline. It was omitted due to the then situation with covid. I feel they're definitely going to try modifying a couple at some point as the Renaissance cars will be retired sometime this decade, leaving only budd cars left and unless VIA is going to convert some of the reassigned corridor budds to suit other purposes, they'd have no choice but to use a skyline car so as to have a lounge space and a cafe. Im just not sure if they're going to do that any time soon because the ren lounges already fulfill this role only lacking the panorama dome. The remaining Renaissance cars have had a lot of work done to them during the COVID layoff. They're going to be around for a while still. Especially in light of the fact that there are not enough Budd cars to equip all of the Canadian, Skeena, northern Manitoba and Quebec, AND the Ocean. Dan While that is true, they have already exceeded their life span and their condition wasn't helped by operating in weather conditions they weren't designed for. Though no official confirmation was made, all signs point to the Renaissance fleet (Corridor and Ocean sets) to be all retired by 2025-2026 and replaced by budds which there would be a lot more to use because budds currently assigned to the corridor would be reassigned to the long distance and regional services. It's just unknown if any of these cars would be converted to suit other needs or remain all coaches (which i find incredibly unlikely). VIA is in the process of putting out an order for long distance cars but who knows when that order will be A: Made and B: delivered. As i said, im sure we'll find out soon enough what their plan for the Skyline cars on the Ocean are when they answer questions during the annual public meeting later this month. Tbh im more interested in finding out what will happen to the corridor budds and what, if any conversions will be made to have them better suitable for long distance and regional trains. I believe the intention behind rebuilding the HEPII cars was to ensure that they can be used out side of the corridor once the new fleet arrives. But that's only 10 first class cars, plus 43 economy cars. It's better than nothing I guess.

The Budd coaches aren't the problem, and have never been the problem. The extra 17 ex-US cars made sure of that. There aren't enough other cars to go around, however. Viafreak
The strike in 2009 lasted 2 days. The Canadian was cancelled at Winnipeg, leaving two trainsets parked at the station. Good to hear the deadline this time was extended. I thought that was the case as there were no trainsets parked at the station. The only sign that something was amiss was the fact that the Winnipeg Maintenance Centre had one of the Hudson Bay consists complete with Park Car. Usually there wouldn't be any trainset there on a Monday.
