jameskoole
Not sure how to edit the wiki, but some updates on rolling stock: Glacier Park is no longer in storage and has been rebuilt as a Prestige car. Renumbered 88706. I've seen the car in person a couple of times over the last month or so. This is not my pic, but provides evidence: Chateau Varennes is also now a Prestige car. My photo, taken today...

CP Red was gorgeous, VIA's blue was 70's and tacky, but that is expected, and at least it jumps out and is unique. A black stripe? Seems boring. Is this colour choice just used for the non-plebe class cars? Took the train this summer and our poor-people cars still had a blue stripe.
jameskoole
It's more a dark grey than black. I miss the days of the Silver and Blue branding, but if "Prestige" with a dark grey stripe is what VIA needs to do to keep this train viable, then I'm fine with it. I agree though - the CP deep red was the best look for these cars.
webfil
It's not a "premium service" color; It's the new corporate color scheme, revealed in september, along with refreshed branding. Black and charcoal both are included. https://media.viarail.ca/sites/default/files/inline-files/VIA Rail Canada_Brand Book_LTW_EN_FINAL.pdf

Stock jingle banks are a thing, just like stock footage or stock image banks such as iStockPhoto or Getty Images. See AudioJungle, Premium Beat, Bensound and many other websites that put butter on professional ukulele and glockenspiel players' bread. --- That being said, I feel there's nothing new in this, except that we now know what are the next steps ― but still don't know where the money will come from.

FelixINX
Also to be noted, the Canadian will continue on the same schedule next summer. In my memories, the Canadian would be returning to it's "original" 3 times a week schedule in 2020. Another year of track works or a definite reduction of service?
Shaun
Is VIA rebuilding the HEP II cars even though they will be retired when the new fleet arrives? It would make sense to use them outside of the corridor or possibly on the Canadian?

There are 46 HEP 1 cars under reconstruction (17 future "HEP 3" accessible cars) or refurbishment (4 diner and 25 coaches). Many 8000-series coaches are currently operating on the Ocean in replacement for damaged Renaissance cars (due to derails) that have been put aside for restoration. I suspect that the traditional added service on the Montreal-Halifax not being back this year may have the same reason ― not by lack of interest from the customers. I was surprised to ride a HEP coach from Mont-Joli this summer. Here's 8147, August 26th 2019.

Isn't 8147 one of three HEP-I coaches with a galley for Northern Quebec services? Quite a rare sight to see those coaches outside their normal run. During the Canada 150 youth pass during July 2017, 8145 and 8147 (not sure about 8146)Â were assigned to the Canadian for meal service for Economy class. One of the other consists used a HEP-I diner. That's the only time that I have seen them in western Canada. 1

It’s just that 8145-47 are indeed used almost exclusively on the Jonquière and Senneterre services, but you still recalled 3 out of 4 digits correctly, which was sufficient to identify the correct car...
Shaun
Does anyone know the progress on building the bi-pass for Edmonton's Walker yard? Last year on Christmas I caught the Canadian from Edmonton to Jasper and the train was 11 hours late. And it took them 5 hours travel the last 20 miles to get to the station. The bi-pass track was supposed to help aleve this type of congestion.
Chris W
I have a couple of questions: 1. If the proposed RDC takeover of the western part of the Corridor (i.e Southwestern Ontario), along with the Vancouver Island line, happen, will any previously retired Budd RDCs be coming back? 2. Has VIA decided on the numbers for the HEP3 coaches? I know there's 17 HEP1 cars being repurposed into HEP3s but would anyone happen to know what they'll be numbered? The bi-pass track was supposed to help aleve this type of congestion. Followed the Canadian on https://tsimobile.viarail.com recently to see if it was (for a change) managing to keep it's schedule during the CN strike when there was less traffic on the network and noticed there seems to be a track at the south edge of the yard from one end to the other that Via uses that makes up part of the wye at the station. Previously I recall arriving in Edmonton from the east a few tracks north then backing in to the station moving over a couple tracks. So I think it's in place but it seemed like eastern edge of Walker yard (East of Fort Road) and through Cloverbar are still bottlenecks. There is the single track bridge where traffic converges from Wainwright sub/main line and the line to Camrose sub to Calgary and also the Vegreville sub converging just east of Fort Road where it's still only double track before the yard. There's a good illustration on the Canadian Railway Atlas. Shaun
Is it better than before? It took like 3 hours from sherwood park due to congestion.
dbdb
I would guess from the trains 1 and 2 currently enroute and several hours late after passing through Edmonton that no, it's not much better than before.
Shaun
Is that the major bottleneck in the system? Who's smart idea was it to put the station in the yard?
dowlingm
Wonder if anyone has ever floated relocating VIA's station in Edmonton to the siding beside Belvedere LRT station? Not only would it provide direct access to local transit but some of the patrons might like to while away the interminable wait for delayed trains at the nearby casino.
