I'm assuming so, I was just saying I haven't seen it active recently, which would make sense if it's undergoing major repairs.

It is undergoing major work. Possibly a full refurbishment.

I received an updated fleet list from the Transit Manager at T3:

  • Bus 73, VIN 1N9MLAC668C084091, ex-Calgary Transit 1606, El Dorado EZ Rider II
  • Bus 74, VIN 1N9MLAC668C084088, ex-Calgary Transit 1603, El Dorado EZ Rider II

The buses were acquired in 2018. I did not get a more specific date.

The listing also contained a VIN for bus # 72:

  • 2G9B30AA6GA098043

I suspect that this is an error on the fleet list. That VIN corresponds to Calgary Vicinity 1630. I suspect that in transitioning from the El Dorados to the Vicinities, the registration fromĀ 1630 and another El Dorado may have been accidentally switched and not noticed.

I have an inquiry into T3 to check the VIN for bus # 72.

Any word on what the VIN for #72 is?

It wouldn't make sense for them to have one Vicinity when the entire rest of the fleet is old El Dorado's, including the other two buses in the same purchase.

T3 has recently announced buying 3 more refurbs, so it'll be interesting to see if these also come from Calgary...

I wonder if any D40LFRs will come from Medicine Hat. There'll be 6 for sale

Stumbled upon this picture on flickr, showing with finality that 72 is an El Dorado. Photo isn't mine, so I can't claim ownership or anything.

72 is closest to the front, with 65 and 74 on the other side of the road

Does anyone have the VIN for 72?

Charlottetown has two separate tenders out for purchasing buses.

The first tender is for 6 35 or 40' diesel buses in which the city is requesting pricing for the following options.

  • 6 35' buses
  • 6 40' buses
  • 4 35' buses and 2 40' buses
  • Replacement parts for the purchased buses
  • Provide optional pricing for electric buses

The original tender document had some specs that were written practically to NFI specs (specifically axles and suspension) however a updated spreadsheet of specifications has those requirements removed. Of note, a preference for stainless steel frame is notedĀ in the specifications. Delivery is requested beforeĀ February 2021 for the first 3 buses and April 2021 for the next 3.

This tender reminds me of the tender Medicine Hat put out last year requesting a combination of 35' or 40' buses, which ended up purchasing all 35' buses from Grande West as the pricing was significantly cheaper than a Xcelsior. The same dynamic could play out here especially if Grande West orĀ ADL decide to bid with their 35' buses.

The second tender is for 2 Cutaway buses with delivery requested by February 2020.

The tender for the full size buses was awarded to New Flyer for 4 35' buses and 2 40' buses. Of note, this is only the second order for XD35 buses in Canada after Welland Transit.

Grande West and Nova Bus had lower bids for the all 35' and 40' bus categories but there was a desire for a mix of 35' and 40' buses.

This smells funny. Especially when the original bid specifications referred to New Flyer. And this is coming from someone who is a fan of New Flyer products...

T3 Transit buying bigger buses to keep up with demand

The owner of T3 Transit says more and more Islanders are packing into buses to commute.Ā

Total ridership is up by as much as 50 per cent in Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall and now the company is set to replace some of it's "aging" fleet with larger buses, said Mike Cassidy.

"When you look at Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall, all three municipalities are up significantly," Cassidy said.

Ridership for Charlottetown alone was up about 130,000 for 2019 compared to 2018.

T3 also added mid-morning and mid-afternoon routes to the Dutch Inn in Cornwall, which Cassidy said boosted ridership there.

Right now the 15-bus fleet is made up mostly of 30-foot buses and one that is 40-feet long.

I unfortunately don't know; there's a couple of Chevrolet minibuses in the background of the video that T3 put on Facebook, but they might be unrelated (parked around some of their Coach Atlantic fleet, so might be separate from the T3-specific fleet)

EDIT: found the RFP for the minibuses; winner was Crestline Coach

That would be my assumption; the unfortunate part is that their bus tracking software doesn't include the bus number, so it's difficult to tell which buses are on which route on a given day (which would be the easiest way to make a guess as to which bus is which)

The wiki needs to be updated for the newest buses in Charlottetown.

The XD40 buses are fleet numbers 211L and 212L (I am guessing the L stands for length which distinguishes them from the XD35 buses).

The XD35 buses are fleet numbers 213-216.

The Arbocs are fleet numbers 2081 and 2082.

By the way, I did get confirmation at the garage that the Zhong Tong was scrapped six months ago.

That is too bad. It sounds like a pretty serious accident. This news report has a photo which shows the damage to 213, one of the new XD35 buses.
