stm_5307N
Last time I saw 12-088 was during museum day and it had a red sticker that said it was sold to some company and it was sitting at the far end of the Anjou CT lot with other sold buses. Last time I saw 12-088 was on the 102 Somerled during a full blown winter storm in December 2008! That really sucks! Have any idea where exactly these buses are sitting retired? Nope. M. David
And now for some good MCI news. -- MCI Watch 07 / 30 / 09 11-040 on the WB 110 at Metro Angrignon at 14:00. Ayeobe and I wanted to show the three Ottawa guys (the two Mikes & Trav) a good time, so we got on and had a pleasant ride . We also discovered that the rear was was grafted off of 11-066, since we could see the outline of of a pair of sixes under the rear fleet number. Our MCI Classic riding continued with recently repainted 12-072 on the EB 460 at Gare Dorval at 15:45. Another great ride on another great bus . Recently repainted 12-067 Hors-Service and deadheading SB on St. Michel near Metro St. Michel at 16:55. All three sound and look great !

Ayeobe
First STM bus I ever rode if I may add. And 4th? lol --- Ah man... why cant they just retire the 1st gens first? Btw is there any idea about the rust underneath the older classics? The driver of 12-072 mentioned that it may be because they're rusted underneath.. Any solid evidence they may be retireing some for that, or is it they're obsession with new shit?
Mystic
And 4th? lol--- Ah man... why cant they just retire the 1st gens first? Btw is there any idea about the rust underneath the older classics? The driver of 12-072 mentioned that it may be because they're rusted underneath.. Any solid evidence they may be retireing some for that, or is it they're obsession with new shit? Just like any vehicle in Quebec. Years of corrosive salt in the city streets have taken their toll on the frames of all our buses, and this is the only reason in most cases why buses are retired. The GM Classics were retired en masse because of rust issues, a lot of the time not visible on the outside, but the frames were rusted out and not just Montreal had problems the first few years with GM's.s The mechanical aspects were always solid, but the frames wore out after only 5 years in service, and those that were rebuilt stayed in service the longest. A lot of our 59's & 60's and 11's & 12's were made too solid, which explains why they're going on 20 years and why a lot of them had never even been rebuilt, ever, and some are just getting their first coat of paint or first bit of rust removed after 18 years! And 60-013 that had a rough 1st life was rebuild to original specs, and is still in service going strong as ever. Imagine if more were rebuilt after 12 years, we'd have MCI's for 25 years or more and still looking great! 55-001 is an example of a bus that was rebuilt by the STM just before it was retired, unfortunately it had been sitting around for years after in a damp field waiting to be restored, so the rust probably returned, which is why it must have taken a lot of work to clean up. I have pictures underneath of 55-001, it's not pretty. According to some mechanics, they are retiring the buses when they risk becoming unsafe. 59-058 was solid as a rock ,but the transmission was failing for almost a year, and they must have finally decided to retire it because of that, or it had failed altogether. This bus was original spec from MCI, and the last white-stripe classic in service. And 60-060 was supposed to remain in service because it had a strong body, not a spec of rust on the outer frame, but an over zealous mechanic was trying his best to have this bus retired and refused to do a brake job on it, and chose to mark it as retired instead. And the story about 60-071, a bus they wanted to keep in service, but sadly was removed because of a rusting frame. So I imagine it's a case by case basis when they choose to retire a bus. The only time I can see them retiring buses because they want something new is when they have a huge new order coming in and you see a bunch of retired buses lining the entire lot. Lasalle doesn't seem to be that type. They've kept 60-013 through thick and thin, and they even transferred their 12's rather than retire them like some garages would do. I'm sad though that there are no 12's at Lasalle anymore, since I haven't seen one in weeks now just making my trips to downtown and back.
Ayeobe
Mont-Royal, according to a driver, is getting a bunch of classics. Hence 13-041 and two other classics on the 45 past 2200h! We may wana fan all routes served by Mont-Royal in the future, no?! BTW is 13-041 considerd a reg. Service bus? It ran untill the end of service on the 27, i think, last night.. It was awesome.
