Out of ordinary Calgary Transit bus spottings

Recommended Posts

I’ve been making an interesting observation these past 3 days. I live along route 14 and I’ve been noticing that for the past 3 days there seems to be an extra bus/key that has been assigned to the route during the off peak. Its not noted on the schedules on the app nor the blocks on transit 55. It roughly slots itself around 15-20 mins between the regularly scheduled trips. I almost caught it today at 2:30 at Somerset heading West

There are multiple scheduled Route 14 buses that only do trips to the west inbetween regular keys. When they return to the station, they go out of service for a short time and then start back in westbound. The first one starts around 14:30, as there is atleast 1 school on that route that gets out around that time daily. Suprisingly, it does not appear this bus was cut along with the other winter break cuts for school runs and school extra regular blocks of work.

7985 did a 124 extra block that is usually a Stoney run after being dispatched over an hour late the driver also managed to pull into the 161/89 bay rather then the 124/123 bay that is adjacent

They dropped the ball on that one pretty good, there were a good 50+ people waiting there and that bus left people behind. Given that 7950 seemed to have broke down at the garage and 7985 was the replacement, it was already over an hour late being sent anyways, and quite frankly it’s too bad none of the school runs in the surrounding areas at the time finishing up did a trip to relief that load of people needing that 124, given that there were numerous buses around the area that could have at the time (7739, 7746, 7810, 7814, 6063 to name a few).

I also put this in the big bus on shuttle forum

but I think it should be in here too, xd40 on 52

For future reference, it's only really nessesary to put it in one thread because its just wasting time when people have to read another thread for the exact same information.

There were a few very interesting sightings during todays crap fest.

8140 - 404

7972 - 111

7768 - 76, 105

7947 - 54, 154, 77

6055 - 86 (Single Trip on Key 95) (Photo credit to one of my friends)

8116 - 68, 67, 87

8078 - 86 (Filled in for rest of night after 8379 broke down)

8078 never tracked on the 86-95 block due to the fact the driver remained logged in to the 48 key it was doing beforehand

Here’s a photo of 8140 on the Mount Pleasant section of the 404.

Note the entire block during the day did not track whatsoever, as 1336 was on the piece for most of the day until approximately after 6pm. 8140 was not logged onto the CAD as it finished the rest of the block during the evening.

Dispatch had quite a fun time dispatching articulated buses this morning and afternoon creating many notable sightings and causing disaster for mainline routes.

  • 6084 - 76/97/129/159/303
  • 6086 - 100 (Changed off 20:34)
  • 6093 - 128/23
  • 6064 - 100 (Changed off 16:54)
  • 6067 - 100
  • 6056 - 9/23/43/135/303
  • 6057 - 159/23
  • 6062 - 43
  • 6080 - 174
  • 6040 - 306
  • 6004 - 92/10
  • 6015 - 304
  • 6017 - 304/102/167/23
  • 6087 - 124
  • 7847 - 82/31
  • 7898 - 31/113/142

I witnessed 6064 being changed off on the 100 and it was nothing short of a disaster. The driver originally arrived at North Pointe with Out Of Service on the sign and told passengers he was getting a change off. The driver had supposedly called for a change off while he was at the airport and was told one would be waiting for him at North Pointe there was no bus for a change off at north pointe, he called control who then said they weren't aware of a change-off. The driver then called someone else and finally was told his change off originally was 8192 and was waiting for him but got sent back to the garage and that they would turn him around shortly after the change off showed up leaving him about 25-30 minutes late.
