captaintrolley
Quote The job search saga continues, as it appears that I have been duped by a scammer. Happened to me with a Mystery Shopper job. I know a couple of people that actually do legitimate Mystery Shopping, so thought I would apply. Long story short - listen to your gut. If something seems to good to be true, or too easy (like no interview) then 'run, don't walk, away as fast as you can'. And report them to BBB.

After being unable to locate said HR rep on LinkedIn, and being unable to find the offices of their company at the given address in Toronto, I discovered that the email had been sent from an unusual address - companynamehrteam . info, instead of companyname.ca, as emails from that company usually came. A quick interaction with the company's Twitter, and I found out that this was not a legitimate email. Absolutely fooled me, though - everything was formatted super professionally, including their forms. Bastards! Heaven only knows what sort of shit I would have been roped into if I'd ended up signing that contract. When it rains, it pours. It always amazes me how sophisticated scammers can be. If they put the same effort into honest work... It's a good thing you didn't sign that contract. I don't think you'd have been into any serious trouble if you had though since no court's going to enforce a contract with a scammer. The more critical thing is that you didn't give them the setup information for payroll otherwise they could vacuum out your bank account and/or steal your identity and that's far more serious than breaking a contract that you signed in a fraudulent deal. 3 hours ago, PCC Guy said: Is that an issue that falls under the BBB's jurisdiction? The problem with BBB etc. is that they can only deal with actual businesses. Unfortunately, there's very little they can do in terms of taking scammers impersonating a legitimate business when it isn't the business itself that's causing the problem. I hate to come out on side of big business here but in a way they're a victim as well because their reputation can take a beating when this sort of thing is going on in their name. Reporting this to the company that was being impersonated can't be a bad thing even if their response to it is lacklustre. Anyways, here's hoping the job search turns up something good for you soon. 1

Thomasw
Went swimming with my iPhone SE in my swim short pockets and put it in rice for 3 full days but it won't work. Now I'm screwed because I still have another 3 weeks before I go home again and because my parents(who aren't with me in this leg of the trip) don't even know yet. Also screwed because my phone was the only device that I brought with me so now my instagram(@translinkbus and @planeguy737) will be left unmonitored for 3 weeks and I'll have at least 2 hours of catch up to do on each account. For Christ's sake, I am SO fed up with posting in this thread. I don't know why this is but between my own personal experience and anecdotal evidence, there seems to have been a real rash of reliability problems with portable solid state storage the last few years. I haven't observed any problems with computer SSDs that have taken the place of internal hard drives. Everything I've had problems with or heard about other people having problems with has been the portable removable media. I hardly use variants of SD cards but I use USB sticks and I've gone through a ton of them that have either been dead on arrival or died within a few days or a couple of weeks of being bought and put into use. Honestly, it makes me nostalgic for the old days when I never had problems with magnetic tape or photographic film, computer diskettes, CD-Rs, hell, I used Zip disks heavily and never had any problems with those like the click of death either. But modern flash storage? Total crapshoot. It's like there's no quality control or the defective units aren't being destroyed at the factories but are getting repackaged sold under second and tier brand names or in knockoff product packaging.
81-717
Little FML/WTF moment: at 2:35 am this morning I was startled awake by the sound of something falling & tumbling on the floor. I got up to have a look, and found my phone on the floor at the other end of the room, beside the door. I must've fallen asleep with my phone and it fell off the bed, though I'm not sure how it could've ended up all the way across the room.
Greatcoinz
Apparently work knows how to take advantage of my good nature. They asked me to do a night shift. I declined because I find the night shift 100x exhausting more than day shifts and that I have to take on a delivery later the same day after I'm off. They said ok. I went to work for my scheduled afternoon shift and they said I'm doing the night shift. I said I refused for the same reasons and that me and the night manager would likely argue and fight. Well more bullshit and that an inspection in the next 24 Hours and they sucked me into it. So basically I'm working around 20 Hours within the next 32 hours. Since I live across the city from my work I figured it was pointless to drive home during rush hour. So I'm in the management office resting. At this point I had enough of this job. (Actually I said I had enough shortly after working five years here), I applied for work in the industry that I want to devote the rest of my life too but right now I'm just waiting for call backs.
Wayside Observer
A bunch of us might stick our head in the door after work to check and make sure but it sounds like the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife no longer offers an all you can eat prime rib meal on Sunday evenings. If true, that is very, very disappointing. Someone turncoat must have tipped them off that the project team was in town.

Without a vehicle it's gonna be difficult to take the old beast to the Eco Station and to pick up a new one from the store. Just out curiosity, what did the microwave do when it died? The reason I’m curious is because mine died about a year and a half ago. It was the second night into a run of midnight shifts and to make those a bit easier, I usually make a big pot of something the day of the first one so that the leftovers will carry me most of the way through and I won’t have to do as much cooking. In this case, it was a pot roast, and I carved up a nice big helping and loaded up with a generous portion of vegetables and put the plate in the microwave. When I pushed the start button, it made this horrible noise and then it died and the light went out before I could get my hand over to the stop button to turn it off. The display with the clock still worked and it was still counting down to cold food. That was the end of the hand-me-down Danby I had for about 15 years. I thought about it but I decided not to bother with trying to fix it and bought a nice, big Panasonic the next day. The plate of food went in the warming oven while I took a shower. Good thing I’m old enough to remember how we all lived before microwave ovens became common! I am kicking myself for not opening the dead microwave and pulling the transformer before junking it at the recycling centre though but then again, according to the Toronto foamers, I shouldn’t be doing complicated electronics blah blah blah so I shouldn’t really need that sort of thing either... At least when the Danby died, it died with a pretty good show! I actually almost jumped out of my skin from the noise it made when it packed in! captaintrolley
So my swimming pool is closed for a month for maintenance. The only other 50M pool is a long ways off by bus for me. It's on a one-way road so I have to go to the other side of the river and back track to get to it. Many areas are not fun to get to by bus in Edmonton. Route reconfiguration and frequency cuts have made travel by bus rather annoying and I rarely venture out of my 'comfort zone' using transit. I am fortunate to live in a neighborhood where mostly everything I require is easy to access by bus or is a short walk away. To compound matters, the coffee shop across from where I live will be closed for three weeks starting next week. So this month is going to be a bugger. Greatcoinz
A bit of a FY Moment / FML Moment. So the F Yeah Part. I got a job interview with a company in the industry that I want to work in for the rest of my life. I'm really hoping for the best and that I nail the interview which consists of working with other applicants in team building skills, the interview itself and a seminar on the day of the life of the "job title". So here's the FMLMoments. Since I can't shut my mouth at work, many of my coworkers now know that I am looking for another job and potentially might be leaving the company. Which has gotten me on edge. Well after 5 Years & 4 Months, Two Hour Commutes by Public Transit / 45 minute Drives, its time for a fresh start as this job is only 10 minutes away from home. Also another thing, this is my first actual job interview of my life. My current job, I just finished a questionnaire, answered a couple questions from the manager and I got hired a couple months later. So I'm now expected to nail this interview and expected to move on. I've been trying to prepare myself psychologically to nail this interview as it's been long overdue. (By Friends, Family & even myself). Another FML Moment where to RSVP, the company uses a poll site instead. If you RSVP more than once, it can fry your chances. Well Since I am terrible of remembering these things without Email cconfirmations, I may have of RSVP'd twice by accident. So fuck, I sent an email saying I look forward to meeting y'all but I may have accidentally RSVP'd twice. So I'm worried. I should have just wrote down the info. Well if all fails, there opening up a brand new restaurant, same one I currently work at, 10 minutes walk from my place. So if all fails, I can be a manager there. But honestly, I've had enough of it.

Thomasw
Don’t you just love it when you are on a quite bus trying to listen to your music but then 30 rowdy 6 year olds come in with like 3 camp leaders and the camp leaders do nothing to shut them up so it gets louder and louder. I am kinda sensitive to loud noises so this really pisser me off to the point where I got off the bus a couple stops early and walked the rest of the way home just to escape the noise.
