retrofitted with what exactly?

The buses arrived with nothing but the colour scheme painted! Buses need to be retrofitted with, decals inside and out, fare boxes, bike racks, presto systems, Rangers, stop annunciation and display system, radios, first aid kits, as well as destination signs need to programmed aswell! This ofcourse happens after all vehicles are properly legalized and insured!

Did any of the Novas make it out as rumored? I've been keeping my eye out but haven't seen any.

there was 2 coaches at the front of the mountain garage terminal this afternoon training operators! One had a destination sign reading "training coach" and one had a destination sign reading "Emerengcy, call police" although my 4 and a half hours of work I didn't see any Novas out on active service! There is about 12 coaches sitting in the garage though! We keep being told any day now!

I don't think any of them were out today. I walked along most of the Delaware route in the East end and was at the GO Centre for half an hour and didn't see one. If you want to check from home, the real time map on the HSR site has the bus numbers listed for each bus. I check the major routes (King, Barton, Delaware) for em every once in awhile.

I was on 0207 a few days ago on the Barton, could be retired by now though. It definitely drove as if it was on it's last legs. Very rough ride.

Same with 0214 on Sanatorium last week. Zero pick up when the operator hit the gas and the whole bus shook when we stopped.

Does anybody know which 02's were most recently retired?

0208 and 0209 were the first 0200s withdrawn recently.

0202, the oldest bus is still in service though. It is on 44-Rymal all day long today. With the school extras being cancelled this week, there will be less 0200s and 0300s on the road.

So this is what $410,000 can buy: rebranding HSR to HSR+

Well done.

http://www.thespec.com/opinion-story/6387961-dreschel-consultants-propose-name-change-for-hsr/

$410,000 well spent.

Who are they fooling, are they actually serious or did April Fools come early this year? First of all, all of the proposed names are outright garbage and a group of high school students could've come up with something better; second of all a "re-brand" usually includes substantial changes to various things. There's no evidence anywhere that there will be substantial changes made to anything with the HSR. This will be the same old HSR that everyone knows and hates when all is said and done.

As a side note, HSR+ would make sense for express services throughout the city, but of course none of them really had a logical thought process going on when they came out with these proposals.

There's some serious heritage attached to the name Hamilton Street Railway. Losing that is a real shame.

In my opinion, all HSR needed was a consistent livery (adopting the artic livery fleet wide) and maybe a new logo.

From today's article in the paper about the rebranding.

According to the tender, Entro is supposed to develop an integrated mobility brand strategy and identity a marketing strategy, and an implementation plan for the city's "entire transportation system."

That includes "potentially re-envisioning the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), accessible transit and rapid transit brands; investigating bus route naming options; developing new stop and station designs; integrating the Hamilton bikeshare brand; investigating cycling route naming and signage; developing an integrated online website and mobile website with multimodal trip planner."

There's more, but you get the idea. Entro appears to be equipped for it. They're the folks who turned Mississauga Transit into MiWay, did branding work for York region's VIVA bus rapid transit system, and produced signage for Brampton's new Zum BRT service.

Other clients include Casino Rama, Hydro One, Interac, and Labatt Breweries. Closer to home, they had a hand in designing signage for the renovated Art Gallery Of Hamilton and Hamilton Farmers' Market.

I like the work they've done with other agencies and the farmers market signage is pretty nice, but I still wish they'd leave the Hamilton Street Railway name alone. I always thought a more "vintage style" rebranding would be the best option, given all the renewed interest in Hamilton's history and heritage lately. I guess we'll just have to see how this plays out.

I remember talking to a guy in the transit industry from Quebec a few years ago. One of the things he said was that the HSR had a great, classic name and logo... right up there with the TTC. I think that the consultants - to their credit - realized this where city council didn't. This is probably as close as they could get to recommending not to change it without actually saying not to change it.

As for any improvements they may recommend, it's not coming via the lump sum the HSR requested. That was turned down. The city will have to use the gas tax revenue for transit like other municipalities.

1504 is currently on the 5C, as per the real time map. Looks to be a tripper, as the map is no longer showing it. Bus #1501 is on 20 A-Line, another tripper. I will update as I get the chance, and as I look at the real time map throughout the day.

Buses 0206, 07 and 12 have had their fareboxes removed.
