Orion V
Didn't mean to, but you don't need to be worry who's still on the board. Oops; just noticed my word you quoted "has" was suppose to be "as" but you knew that. Did you end up taking the trolley, and going to the water with your friend? We ate at Jackson Sqr. I saw only popcorn stands at the final stop at the beach! Then again we were in a hurry and didn't roam around there that much. #70 is a loud bus even with the DPF. Either Bluebird doesn't know how to muffle or the ISB is just loud.

And yes the trolleys are very loud! Weird enough, I had my friend tell me that it has a very smooth sound to his ears. I was thinking WTF is wrong with him. But yeah Burlingtons Blue Birds seem pretty loud also, especially when they are put into park, what a HORRIBLE squeel. EDIT: Can someone get me ANY information on this bus, from when it was in service, till end of service. I am very curious, and want to see more photos. http://mnebuspage.fotopic.net/p46072233.html Thanksss.. Chris

Wonka
HSR 0701 broke down and suffered a diesel leak at King/James this morning around 11am. I would assume it was on the 52. Saw the cleanup after getting off the Bayfront across the street. Also, I'm interested as to what 8251 is. Looks like a really weird Orion V. general682002
It's a Grumman 870. It might be Ex. COTA. More like ex-Santa Monica to me. Can't be diesel fuel leak, then the fire department had to be there to hazmat the whole area and not to go down on storm drain. The leak would be most likely coolant. Wonka
It smelled very strongly of diesel fuel. I also got there well after it happened, the hazmat team was just finishing up. The fire department could have very well been and left already. A storm drain near the bus was also propped open for some reason.
Chris W
What's the story behind 8251? Was it a one-off Grumman? Can it be saved? It's much better than the x40LFs that roam the city.

I remember riding it as a little kid, but I didn't know the type of bus/year, all I remember was quad front doors, and a cool interior. And yes it has a more interesting look than the Newflyers, and what not around Hamilton. Does anyone know when this bus started/ended service in Hamilton? I'm sure Kevin_N will fill in more info about it. It all started in 1994 when their Orion VI CNG was still in production delayed and dire of new buses, HSR decided to try out a rebuild of the Grumann bus and to see if it was worth it. With the rebuild comes in tremendous cost, HSR decided not to do it anymore and start ordering the 25 C40LF and can't wait anymore from Orion. Its a Grumman Flxible bus, I believe HSR purchased the buses second hand and I do believe were still around until 1997ish EDIT : general682002 beat me to it! newflyerinvero
I think I may have already posted this back in March when this was really seen, but has anyone noticed the new styled individual route map/schedule for the B-Line? I find it very nice considering that the HSR is indentifying that aroute as being different from any other within the system. Map update: September. I was talking to an agent yesterday and he confirmed to me that it'd make more sense to have them out in September once the 18-Waterdown and 44-Rymal routes start up then. Yes, I saw that map at Main and Ottawa, I thought it was very unique and colorful. And I'm going to be looking forward to seeing the 44 Rymal, saying there is no service to the new Wal-Mart on Rymal, which will make ridership improve. Seashore_518203
Does anyone know when this bus started/ended service in Hamilton? HSR 8251 was a Flxible Metro (not a Grumman 870) that was bought used from COTA (Central Ohio Transit Authority) in Columbus, Ohio. In Columbus, it was # 8165. As Sherman mentioned, HSR was just experimenting with different ideas to solve the severe bus shortage that existed in the mid 1990's. New Orion low floors were on order since 1993, but as we all know, they were not delivered until 1999. With the NDP government legislating that all new bus purchases had to be low floor, transit systems were really restricted in what they could order for new buses. The 900's, 7700's and 7900's were not getting any younger and HSR was cancelling work due to equipment shortages. When 8165 was purchased, it underwent a complete refurb at HSR. The bus was bought late in 1993, but did not enter service until mid 1994. It lasted in service until approximately late 1999 and was put in storage at that time. The engine (8V-71) survived and was put into one of the HSR artics. I think it was 8203 but I am not positive on this. This bus is still around and is up at the Hamilton Airport. It is used by the Airport Fire department as a training unit. It is barely visible if you are driving down Airport Road, west of the Airport. It is on restricted ground at the airport and it is almost impossible to get pictures of it nowadays. The attached shots were taken in June of 2004 when I was allowed permission to go and inspect the vehicle at the request of movie producers who wanted to use the bus for "Riding the Bus with my Sister". In the photos, you can see the fire truck escort that I had to view the bus. The experiment was found to be too costly and the bus ended up being the only one of it's kind in Hamilton. Kevin Thanks for the info Kevin. Did the bus eventually get used in the film? I remember it having HSR Vs and what looked like an Ex. LACMTA Grumman/Flxible for interior filming. I'm still certain it's a Grumman 870 as metro production beganin around 1983. EDIT: My mistake. I forgot that part way through the Grumman Flxible production, the Metro was introduced. However I don't reacll the year this happened. Perhaps someones else knows.

Hybrid0920
Thanks for the info Kevin, that really helped us all out. When I got off 0213, I looked at the rear door and realized there was a new LED light installed. It is in the place of the old light, on the left side of the door. Wasn't on 0317 or 0214. DavGunner
Speaking of the fire department, they're also using an old New Look (7707) at their training center on Stone Church Rd. I'm not sure if it can be viewed from the public though. They're evidently using it for rescue training. I was there on a shoot for Cable 14 (a feature on some volunteer firefighters) a few weeks ago and I came across the old bus and snapped a few photos. As you can see, it has definitely seen better days. The last photo shows the bus in the background of our shoot; a little behind the scenes peak. Hybrid0920
Rode 0722 on 3 Cannon earlier, and realized it has a different stop request bell. It pretty much sounds like the normal one, with a second lower pitched, beep. I thought I was hearing things until someone else pressed the bell!
