Stupid questions:

I am going to Seattle on Saturday via Amtrak Cascades.

1. Is the Orca card worth the investment for three days?

2. Are there any Beda ADPB 350 or any Gillig Trolley Phantoms service?

3. How many XT40 and XT60 are in service?

5. How many regular fleet XDE60 and D60 buses are in service?

6. Are the regular fleet XDE60 or D60 buses in service?

  1. Depends on what you're doing.  If you're planning on using any transit services besides Amtrak it may be worth it.  It's also the only way to get a day pass.
  2. Yes (see earlier pages for more exact numbers)
  3. Lots.  Should be easy to find
  4. Some, a few
  5. (seems like the same question as above?) Yes, yes.  Seems these days that route 8 will have some of each at all times.

D60s are seen most often on commuter routes during peak.

Yes

Bredas: 43

Gilligs: 27

3. How many XT40 and XT60 are in service?

XT40:85

XT60:22

5. How many regular fleet XDE60 and D60 buses are in service?

XDE60: 20

D60HF:162

6. Are the regular fleet XDE60 or D60 buses in service?

To get a XDE60 or a D60HF on the weekend it would have to be Ryerson routes.

8, 11, 24, 26X, 28X, 45, 48, 62, 124

More likely on Saturday, less likely on Sunday to get artics

As far as 2 and 3 go, be aware that trolleybuses usually don't operate on weekends (on some occasions, a few routes may have trolleybuses while others have DE60LF, Orion VII or D40LF buses instead).

Regarding this:

From what I've observed, the 8, 24, 124 and 62 use artics on Saturdays (not sure about Sundays).  It seems like the 26X, 28X, 131 and 132 use mainly 40' coaches on weekends.  Additionally, the 27 and 33 operate out of Ryerson (probably wouldn't see artics on those routes on weekends though).

Note: most weekends the trolleybus fleet is parked.  @kcmetrobus on twitter announces on Fridays (usually) which trolley routes will be dieselize that weekend

The two Gillig Phantom 30ft #1159 & #1170 are now gone in the OneBusAway system.. Anyone knows what happens to them? Since they're still no new Xcelsior XDE35 in NB there is no reason to retired these reserved Gilligs... I'll be so sad if they're retired.

The operator of a late night route 7 run was stabbed five times. Apparently it may have happened after the route was completed and the suspect followed the operator to the restroom during a rest stop.

The operator should've been in the bus and kicked the passenger out before he died.

Go back and read the articles again...

First off, the operator is not dead. He's in the hospital in in serious condition, but is alive.

Secondly, the incident didn't happen on the bus.

The driver was returning from bathroom break when he saw a man attacking another man at a bus stop. The driver tried to break it up and that's when the suspect allegedly began hitting the driver and repeatedly stabbed him with a knife. The man the suspect initially attacked pulled the suspect off the driver... and the suspect ran away. A witness followed the suspect and helped police track him down a few blocks from where it happened. It sounds like the man who was initially assaulted didn't know the suspect and was attacked when asked the man to stop standing so close to him.

Horrible situation. I hope the driver makes a full recovery from this attack both physically and mentally.

4500 by Blue Bus Fan, on Flickr

Interesting. I wasn't aware that 4500 had gone into revenue service already.

It took quite a few months for the pilot XT40's (4300 & 4301) to go into revenue service. It seems like shorter span of time for 4500.

4500 was on the property several months before entering revenue service, and one can presume that 4300/4301 worked out many of the difficulties and got the operators trained with the coach type, that 4500 only had to test and have some minor training for the artic version of. Also the fact they were in revenue service in SF before Seattle probally helped get the bugs out of them.

Is it safe to assume the 4500 start service on Monday? Or has any one else seen it before I saw and took that picture on Monday?

According to my records 4500 first day out was on April 28th which I check tracker and OBA everyday so should be very accurate I keep an extensive list of New coaches and their first days in service
