Blue Bus Fan
Looks like the state is going to retire the Evergreen State this week. Hopefully they decide not to retire her and instead retire the Hiyu: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/NR/rdonlyres/18A84B6B-4DCF-46EE-AE2C-559C9EE7996D/109555/VesselStatus293.pdf
SounderBruce
There is a public comment period open until next March regarding the naming of the next 144-car Olympic-class ferry: http://www.wstc.wa.gov/news/2015/WSTCconsideringnamesforthestatesnextferry.htm The three options are "Cowlitz", "Sammamish", and "Suquamish", which all fit the ferry naming policies that were actually started by private operators in the The three current Olympic-class ferries are named "Tokitae", "Samish", and "Chimacum". Personally, I'm favoring Squamish or Cowlitz, because Sammamish can be easily confused with Samish (same sequence of letters, but stretched out). Blue Bus Fan
What bad day for Washington State Ferries two vessels were taken off line today while one has re-enter service: M/V Klahowya had to be taken out service due truck hitting the sprinkle system: http://www.kiro7.com/news/power-outage-closes-ferry-terminal-as-isolated-incident-delays-others/151302530 M/V Yakima had to be taken out service due a fire in engine. http://sanjuanislander.com/news-articles/ferries/21328/yakima-waiting-for-tug-fh-terminal-closed San Juan Island route is going to be mess for the next couple days if they don't get another 144 car vessel on the route or at the minunium of 124 car vessel on the route tommorrow. Blue Bus Fan
The San Juan Island has rerutern to normal service with M/V Kaleetan as the first boat on the route. The M/V Spokane has been place on the Seattle to Bremerton which is super rare because she is usually the second boat on Edmonds to Kingston. This is until they get another Super Class vessel or M/V Samish back in service on the San Juan Islands. I think that the State of Washington should give addition running costs funding to try to keep the boats working and also more capital funding to replace the Evergreen State Class, Hiyu and Super Class because these vessels are starting to see major and massive break downs which effect the whole system excluding the Hiyu which is basic useless to the WSF due her capacity and routes she can operate on. Blue Bus Fan
State commission may consider privatizing WSF: http://www.king5.com/story/news/traffic/2016/03/16/state-commissioner-pitches-ferry-privatization/81890156/ I think this is not the best idea. SounderBruce
Definitely not. A private operator for a route or two might be fine (we have precedence between the monorail [city-owned] and Community Transit's commuter routes [First Transit]), but making it private would be a death sentence. Blue Bus Fan
Seems like Kwa-di Tabil Class vessels could have another serious problem with rudders since the Salish and Kennewick had to be taken out of service to fix the problem. Hopefully they don't find the problem on the Chetzemoka and needs to be taken out of service because they would be no back up vessels or another vessel to take over Pt Defiance / Tahlequah route while the Chetzemoka is out for repairs. PT/Coup - Kennewick Out of Service Until Further Notice The Kennewick is out of service until further notice due to necessary repairs. This cancels the 8:45am, 10:15am, 11:45am, 1:15pm, and 2:45pm sailings from Port Townsend, and the 9:30am, 11:00am, 12:30pm, 2:00pm, and 3:30pm sailings from Coupevdlle. PtD/Tah - Route Suspended Thursday Morning June 16 Starting tomorrow morning, June 16, service on the Point Defiance/Tahlequah route will be suspended while divers conduct an underwater inspection on the M/V Chetzemoka. All trips on this route are cancelled at least through the morning commute. This decision comes following the discovery of a rudder issue with Chetzemoka’s sister vessel, the M/V Kennewick. Customers should plan to use the north end route to Fauntleroy or Southworth and drive around. Temporarily suspending the Point Defiance/Tahlequah route will put extra traffic on the Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route. Please plan accordingly and walk on if possible. WSF apologizes for the inconvenience. Both found here here.
Blue Bus Fan
Lockheed Shipping of Seattle only Hyak and Kaleetan would have been built: http://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm&file_id=3050 The state seems with future orders past this order until the Kwa-do Tabil class vessels felt short of what the state wanted to built

Blue Bus Fan
Washington State Ferries is having problems at Fauntleroy with the Fauntleroy / Vashon Island / Southworth: http://www.vashonbeachcomber.com/news/391130951.html I think the state needs to take a hard look at the triangle route because it seems to have huge delays and problem. 1. Expanding the dwell time becuase in the near future this route will be operate with only Issaquah 130 Class vessel. 2. If the first idea does work split the route with two vessels for Vashon Island, one vessel for Southworth and 64 car vessel for Vashon Island to Southworth route, 3. If that idea fails in five years divert the Southworth vessel to Colman dock.

Blue Bus Fan
Sea/BI - Hyak Replaces Tacoma 10/3The Hyak will replace the Tacoma on Oct. 3 on the Seattle/Bainbridge route. The Tacoma is out for emergency repairs to the navigation lights. The Hyak carries about 42 fewer vehicles than the Tacoma, so drivers could see extended wait times due to limited capacity. We apologize for the inconvenience, and are working to restore full capacity to all affected routes as soon as possible. This super rare to see a Super Class vessel on Brainbridge route since the Jumbo Class Mark II is enter service.
Blue Bus Fan
Due propeller problems on the M/V Wenatchee a lot strange vessel movements are in place: Quote Muk/Clin: Kennewick Replaces KittitasBecause of a propeller problem with the M/V Wenatchee on the Seattle/Bainbridge Island route, the M/V Kennewick replaced M/V Kittitas on the Clinton/Mukilteo route. Please be advised that the Kennewick carries approximately 60 fewer vehicles than the Kittitas, which may cause delays. WSF apologizes for the inconvenience. First time Kwa-di Tabil class has been operate on the Mukilteo route which seems it will cause a night mare all week. Quote Sea/Brem: Kittitas Replaces Walla WallaBecause of a propeller problem with the M/V Wenatchee on the Seattle/Bainbridge Island route, the M/V Kittitas will replace the M/V Walla Walla on the Seattle/Bremerton route as of the 3 p.m. sailing departing Seattle. Please be advised that the Kittitas carries approximately 60 fewer vehicles than the Walla Walla, although the smaller-sized vessel is typically what operates on this route during the fall sailing season. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
