take this as strictly rumor but,

i heard from a reasonably reliable source (orion's mechanic trainer) that there will be a mercdes-benz articulated citaro at the trransit expo the first week in april.

orion my have an artic available sooner than you think......

as long as they don't deviate from the m-b design too much it could be a decent bus.

That's interesting. On the old Transitstuff board a month or two back it was reported that there was apparently a Mercedes-Benz Citaro G at Orion in Oriskany.

When I was at Orion bus tour in 2003, a rep. told me they will bring one of their artic bus to North America.

5 years later rather than 1-2 years later.

Is the TTC getting any Orion VII's NG that are not hybrid this year?

No, the next two orders to come are for Hybrids, 190 (1500s) this year after the 1200s are finished and then another 140 (1700s?) next year.

1700-1829.

With this much problems they have with them I'm surprised they're not changing the 1700s to diesels.

By then hopefully the problems the TTC has experienced with the current batch will be fixed.

The only thing I can see is that TTC wants to be one heck of totally enviromental friendly by saving the cost of diesel cost and the pollution, this may never go back to diesel.

I just notice another different thing on the NGs. In that box area on the dash next to the fare box, there are usually 4 buttons on the VIIs. "Floor heater, kneel, ramp, etc." But on the NGs, there's a 5th button in the top middle; what is that for?

Also, how come on the top right section of the dash on the VIIs, there is a black round ball thingy while on the NGs, it's a vent thingy?

My bad, I got the 2009 order mixed up with the original order for this year, which was suppose to be 140. The 2009 order is for 130 buses not 140.

Hm...never noticed the second one, but the first, yeah. I'm not too sure what it's for. I'll have a look the next time I catch one (which will most likely be Friday on the 38/133).

Also how come the Orions make a distinct sound when releasing the brake pedal? Whether it be V's, VII's, or NG VII's, they all make that "tzoof" sound whenever the driver releases the brake. It's pretty loud too.

Sometimes its so distinct, I can hear and tell whether its a V, VII, or NG VII that's going to pass by without even looking at it.

It's labelled something like "emissions bypass". Perhaps ttcmech can fill us in on what its use is.

Just a different style of vent, that's all.

I've wondered that for a long time, sometimes it is a lot of "tzoof'"s in a row, sometimes it is just 1 or 2.

I really like the NG's, I was with one of my Queensway friends and he was on layover at Kipling the other day and there was one sitting there, so my friend asked the driver if we could take a look, "sure" he said, "I'm doing a change-off anyways", so we had a good 5-7 minutes look and then went back to our boring old 6488.

It's not just the Orion products; I notice our D40LFs make the same sound when releasing the brakes too. This makes me think it has something to do with the engine/transmission.

I just received word that that Mercedes-Benz Citaro G is currently at the Mississauga Orion plant, in R & D.

I'd love to see Orion start selling Citaro Gs as their artic model renamed to the Orion VIII, similar to what they did with the Irakus 280 (not 100% sure on the model number), marketing it as an Orion III.

And guess what, I saw on QEW heading eastbound at 920am as I was heading to Burlington!

It's an all grey painted w/side body said "Citaro" and it has a large Caution labelled at the rear section!

It would be 286.

Well, we'll just wait and see if they can make Hybrid version available.

I know ttcmech will give more info about it, but it has to do with the manufacture that builds the brake system.

Heating after rebuilt:

After they went for rebuilt, did they change the area where the heat comes from?

I've noticed the 91 Vs originally came from the vents right under the window but now I notice it comes from the top where the A/C comes from. Same goes to the 96 Vs; they used to come from beneath the seats but now they seem to come from the A/C area.

Last window for the sliding type:

How come all the buses with sliding windows have an unopenable window at the door side of the bus in the rear? Does it have something to do with the vents that are usually behind or above that window? This only occurs in the sliding window models and not the flip windows.

the window is like that for emergency exit, its easier! just like a GM or a STREETCAR

The last several orders of buses have had the rear door interlock tied in with the brake pedal. To disengage the interlock, the driver must apply more brake than they were to hold the vehicle.

Speaking about rear doors, I noticed today while riding 7966 that its rear doors open and close more faster that most of the "OG" VIIs the TTC has.
