Miscellaneous TTC Discussion & Questions

Apparently the third most common reason why the trains were delayed was because crews were late or out of place. Personally I think it's unacceptable. And they treat it as if there is nothing wrong with it.

Late or unavailable crews or equipment were also a big problem, accounting for 10 per cent of delays. Disorderly patrons and false alarms round out the top five.

There are a few G branches. The 52G Lawrence West (Lawrence West Stn to Martin Grove via The Westway) as well as the 96G Wilson (York Mills Stn to Torbarrie and Clayson). The current 39B Finch East (FInch Stn to Old Finch & Morningview) was 39G up until this past June when they redid the branch letters for a number of routes. These are the only G branches I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure there might have been others back in the day.

There is an 85J. This is the branch of 85 Sheppard East that parallels the Sheppard Subway, running from Sheppard-Yonge Station to Don Mills Station. It is shown on schedules as the J branch but it appears on the destination sign and maps as just 85/85A. There is also a 96H shown on schedules for the 96C runs that turn back westbound from Wilson Station. IIRC, these buses use a 96C destination sign and it is shown as such on maps, However, I have seen "96H Wilson > Short Turn to Wilson Stn" displayed on destination signs before.

Thanks for that. I had a friend of mine make the comment once the older the route, the more branches. It would seem to make some sense. Especially with a route like say Sheppard East that started on May 11th 1968. If I recall, a lot of that area was mostly undeveloped farmland.

According to the TTC, there's a 96T branch  . I don't know if it's signed up as such, but you can see it on the TTC's schedule at http://ttc.ca/Routes/96/Westbound.jsp, where it says " T 96T WILSON To THISTLE DOWN via ALBION and TANDRIDGE"

I think I also saw it on the route schedule at Wilson station.

Alas, neither the map nor the route description carries any mention of this fascinating variant. :(

http://transit.toronto.on.ca/bus/routes/96-wilson.shtml

Looking at November 1990, 96 Wilson had the most branches totaling 11, including the base 96 service. The highest letter assigned was 96K.

May 1994, 85 was the runner up at 10 branches. The highest letter being 85J.

I think Wilson went up to 96K in the late 1980s (on roll signs). Where are the route history experts?

According to the the route history summary for 96 Wilson on Transit Toronto, you are correct. For just under 2 years (February 1989 to January 1991) a peak period 96K branch operating between Wilson Stn and Langstaff via Weston Rd. It was replaced by a branch of 165.

96T is not a real branch. It is just a way of differentiating the differing routing for the 96C. There are different routings for the one branch.

There's a 52W to Weston road. It's obviously not a real branch since it is signed 52S Short Turn to Weston Rd.

Uh no.

Probably any division that has extra buses and drivers. I'm sure there will be members here who will report some sightings, there usually is every year.

Mount Dennis buses at Lansdowne and Queensways at Keele.

new route name in Sept = Morningside Exp becomes 198 UofT Scarborough Rocket - same schedule, new walking transfer, still 6 AM buses etc etc

and quite a few school runs are cancelled because of a shortage of buses.

Are they really short of buses this Fall?

heres one of the pages re bus shortage

116A still exists however when coming back down from Collins, it won't turn into 116E express bus instead it will turn right on Military Trail and turn left onto Morningside.

Also the 198 will stop at every major intersection iirc along Eglinton, Kingston and Morningside. It will not go down to the Guildwood parkway.

198 is another route mentioned in the Transit City Bus Plan, and one I've been waiting for since the report was released. I had a feeling it was going to happen soon after seeing them implement 195. A huge improvement over the current 116E (for those not going to UTSC at least). Curious to see how it will effect ridership on 86E. I can see this route getting some increased service next summer for the Pan Am games with the new Pan Am Aquatics Centre at Morningside & Military Trail.

Another rocket route. Now, all the 190s route number has been assigned a route (current or former). I really think all the rocket routes should be renumbered as more are introduced. Maybe they should use the 200s to make them stand out. Through the 180s range are still free.

I was wonder why wouldn't they run the 116E up Kingston Rd to Morningside instead of Guildwood/Morningside. The 198 routing makes more sense.

The current 116E does use Kingston Rd, it is just not shown on the route map to avoid confusion that it makes stops on Kingston Rd.
