Well at least the first 30 have be produced and some have been delivered already. Those all white LFS's that I saw last week at the Nova plant are actually for the STM! The biggest surprise is that they are being delivered all white with no exterior fleet numbers!! I;m guessing that the paint job, which is suppose to be different on the 29 series buses, will be done in house at the Youville shops. The only way to tell what numbers they are when there all white is by the run number box. The numbers in the box represent the number of the bus in the series. Note that the white paper in the front/side window says 'STM Montreal' along with the batch and number of the bus in the series. The only exterior difference is the large 1/3 - 2/3 front wheelcair access doors. I'm disapointed that the STM didn't even get the upgrade front on these, but the STM will be getting the new upgrade LFS's come April. The other exterior change will be the paint scheme as mentioned, which is why they will be delivered all white to the STM. Enjoy the very first pictures of the 2009 STM LFS's seen at the Nova plant. Note that some are already in Montreal being prepared for service, most likely getting painted at Youville and slowly making their way to St Denis garage where the first 71 will be based..

Thanks for these first pics of the second and a half generation of Nova LFS buses! Not quite second and not quite third, thanks to the wide front door and wheelchair ramp at the front. I'm glad you decided to share some pics with us.

Thanks for the pics, Steve. However, I'm not impressed with some of the specs of these buses so far. Still no redesigned fronts, and no digital run boxes either. At this rate, we'll never get the redesigned fronts. The STM is stuck in the past, and needs to get out of it.

Steve told me the pics were from today. I don't think we'll see new electronic run boxes or new headlights (or taillights for that matter) until we have the third generation LFS.

Yes, I took the pictures this morning at the Nova plant. As for these buses being a mix of 2nd and 3rd gen, they are not at all in any way. These buses are pure 2nd gen only, with just the option for the front wheelchair door. As Mad Mark said, the STM need to start getting new technology from NOva. We'll have are answer come April with the 3rd gens.

Or maybe earlier if someone gets a hold of a later issue of "En Commun"... :)

That should tell what we are going to expect for sure.

Nice pictures! I'm disappointed that STM still order buses with small destination signs The larger ones on the front and the side would look so much better on these buses! While you were at Nova Bus, did you see buses for other transit agencies?

Nope. Last week there was about 20 STM all white LFS's parked in the back and this week only about 10 were left to be delivered parked out in front this time. There were no other buses parked out back either, besides the demos. I did notice another all white new LFS artic in the back though, and it wasn't 40882 as it was beside it or 40881 which is in NYC currently.

Interesting!

The thing is that all those specs like the electronic sign size, sliding windows and the mumbo-jumbo are all Provincial specification.

As of the old front end, I know this is another Provincial standard order but this is part of standarization in case of collision and bodyshop guys can replace it with new ends very quick rather dealing with different parts.

Ya well I can't see brand new 3rd gens coming to the STM this year with an old front end still. That wouldn't make any sence..

No, and I belive Nova wants to discontinue their old ends as well.

I really hope that's true.. once the STM starts getting the new front that will officially mean bye bye to the old design..

Unless you know of a busfan friendly busdriver who can probably lend it/show it/give it to you... :)

That's too bad.. I thought that one could find some laying around in metro stations or something..

Someone has posted a video of brand new 29-008 in the new livery on Youtube! It was taken coming into MTL on Highway 15.. The front has the new diagonal paint scheme, but the rest of the bus is all white!? WTF! I hope they do the back as well, but I'm not to sure as the rear website and fleet number decals have been put on. Talk about being cheap!!

I will need to see the whole paint job to make a final judgement. I did not remember seeing any fleet number on it in the video either Steve.

That video was taken by Paul Vandal - I recognize his email address and youtube username. I'm fairly impressed, actually, because we have the same scheme essentially since 1996 (2001 to be precise). But it does feel incomplete. I just hope it won't be a cheap knockoff off Guelph Transit or something. I feel that if we're going to be LFS for life, we might as well have a nice decal job.

That is possible as none were at St Denis yet as of today as far as I could tell.

I agree with this new style scheme in the front with a nice CITSOy wavy blue line, it would look pretty decent for a new scheme. I'm glad they decided to stay with blue though. Green just wouldn't have worked I don't think. Maybe they're going to test out the new scheme on this bus and try different styles until they get the one they like.

If they add to that scheme, it will probably be the same pattern but just covering the rear as well.
