Just thought I'd create a thread for anyone to post any news or info regarding OC Transpo, since we currently don't have a proper thread for it.

Starting tomorrow, OC Transpo will be circulating new bus tickets. They are described to be bigger, and thinner, so that they don't get jammed in the new fareboxes. The color will be pink, and value will be the same ($1). It will no longer be sold in pack of 10s, only in pack of 6 ($6 per sheet). I will try and get some tomorrow for collecting, since I've been collecting OC Transpo bus tickets for years now.

ISMichael.

I doubt it.

This morning, I got in touch with my contact at OC Transpo, and I was told that they were 60 buses short today. They decided that school routes, regular routes, and express routes were determined not to be canceled, so basically, only trippers got canceled. The reason of the shortage is due to the yellow safety check sticker which were only good for February for some buses.

Some canceled trips from my observation:

125 ORLEANS - 15:50 From Hurdman

125 ORLEANS - 16:20 From Hurdman

Apparently yesterday's bus crash was more serious than it first seemed. This is the story from A-Channel News:

Downtown Crash

Several people are recovering after an OC Transpo bus and a five-ton truck collided downtown Monday afternoon.

Police say the accident happened just after one o'clock, at the intersection of Kent and Albert Streets. The bus driver, a 56-year-old man, was pinned in his seat and crews had to use the Jaws of Life to release him. He was taken to hospital with a serious leg fracture.

Several people aboard the bus were also treated for minor neck, back and hip injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured, but the passenger, a 51-year-old man, was treated for a minor shoulder injury.

Police are investigating, but have not figured out a cause of the crash.

Stay tuned for the latest.

Looks like OC is making route 105 a regular route, which will operate from Lebreton to Terrasses de la Chaudiére all day long, seven days a week.

My assumption is that they are going to keep it a regular route until the Chaudiére is fixed, as it seems to imply as it only serves Terrasses in Gatineau that it's only purpose in life is to provide a shuttle service in lieu of the bridge.

CFRA (yeah I know it's not the best news source but it's the only place it says that - but not even OC has posted this) are mentioning that full service - that means all trips on all routes - will be restore on April 9th (or probably 6th since the 9th is a Thursday). So cautious about that one.

Could make sense, since they were short about 60 buses (as mentioned above) yesterday. Though, we would just have to wait and see.

These new tickets are ridiculous! I feel like a large child using them. It's almost like the difference between lego and duplo!

I see it this way:

The route 105 will stay the way its going to be changed to even after the bridge reopens.

The route 27 & 88 will remain the same

Route 8 will change the way it is in the detour. Why it cuts trreavel time. and stay that way after the bridge reopens./b]

So does this mean there'll be an OC Transpo bus other than the one that leaves a minute before my 35 arrives? :)

The Ottawa Sun says it would be 100% on March 16, while the Citizen says it will be at 95% on March 16.

I wouldn't believe the sun, I find they are too pro-cueball.

Besides, even OC's own pamphlets imply that it won't be at 100% service by saying "some runs will not be running" or something along those lines, too lazy to go find my copies.

Well I guess this is good and bad, good because you won't drop your tickets as easily (which has happened to me once with the old size), the bad thing is other people won't drop their tickets as easily, therefore no more free rides :) (you won't believe how many of the old tickets I used to find on the ground)

May I trouble you for a picture? I still haven't been able to purchase some. I usually buy tickets at Zellers, but they still sell the old green ones. :)

Well Halifax does have similar fare boxes, so it would make sense for the tickets to be Halifax size.

So I assume that OC still requires us (adults) to put 2 tickets into the fare box instead of 1? Boy considering the size of Halifax Tickets, that will feel weird when putting into the fare box.
