Whoa!! so much for saying the 1000's wouldn't be painted by the commissioner of transportation since they are scheduled to be retired in 2025 with a possibility this year

Is there an order that is suppose to wipe out all the remaining D40LFR's?

Yes, there are 82 XDE40 buses on order which is enough to replace all the 2007 and 2008 D40LFRs (09xx are 2008 as well). Either way there is not enough buses on order this year to replace both the D40LFRs and Orions.

Anyone know what the mechanical differences between the 700 vs 800/900 D40LFRs are?

The 700s feel very different to drive compared to the 800/900s. The 700s are much faster and pick up immediately when you press the gas. I find with the 800/900, theres a split second after pressing the gas for it to really move. It feels as if there's some sort of interlock that needs to release before it gets going. It physically feels like the bus is still gripping the brakes and it's slowly being released as the bus is beginning to move. I had a 800 series once where I would tap the accelerator and it took 3-5 seconds to start accelerating from each stop (I wanted to drive a fork through my brain that day).

The Miway 700 buses handle exactly like the YRT 700-800 series buses, light fast and peppy. Miway's 800-900 series feel similar yet different.

2008 is when cummins changed the engines with the emissions and exhaust regeneration.   2008-2009 engines are not the best performance wise.   I didn't mind the 2006 units but the 2007-2009 LFRs are junk IMO and I don't miss driving them in Oakville.

Question.

I have a few of the older MiWay Orion paper buses. Would they be the exact carbon copy in real life for those changes? I was hoping to ask for a second opinion...

No changes to the outside. The EPA07 and EPA10 are just the different emission standards.

Wrong. EPA07 and EPA10 are different. Diesel Particulate filter was introduced for 2007 and then Diesel Exhaust Fluid was introduced in 2010. Slight changes to outside access for fluids/compartments.

Thanks for that info. I think he was asking about major changes but that works. I never noticed the small differences. Always looked at the major stuff.

I guess this isn’t talked about but does MiWay really need another garage? The one I’m talking about is the Mississauga Road/407 location. Which I guess you can call it West Credit. If they do in fact build another garage. I’m curious on how the allocation would be between Malton and CP. I feel like CP wouldn’t be as full as it currently is.

I feel like, MiWay could need a third garage to increase bus capacity and provide more service along routes that will need it. Primarily, this garage would be useful for servicing routes 108, 109 and the 104 derry express if it was still in service.

But, from what I'm seeing, the Tender for the Consultation of whether it's feasible to have the third West Credit garage was terminated. Now, I don't know if MiWay have managed to get a consultation or not, Bids were submitted, but the tender wasn't awarded.

The city has own land for the 3rd garage close to 2 decades and was to have it place along time ago. It was to cut down on the deadheading as well freeing up space at CP.

It been talked about in the past 6 months with a price tag around $500 million with the city not having the funding to do it. It will be built for ebuses 100%.

Until the 3rd garage is built, there is no room to house additional buses for expansion keeping the 30% spare ratio.

Talking of moving to an articulate fleet will see a reduction of buses as well a faster turnover, but there needs to be more articulated buses added to the fleet to deal with high ridership as well maintain existing headways for some routes. Cannot increase the number of articulates due to their size without removing space for 40's and maintaining the same number of buses.

Get used to it, fares need to keep up with inflation in order to continue to cover the cost of providing service. Don't like it? How about some service reductions instead.

Looks like the Commissioner has change his mind or the mayor has done it for him that will see the 2010 buses painted orange now and to stay on the road another year or so than the 2025 retirement date. Considering one has already been done, this explain why now.

Going to General Committee to allow a sole source contract to paint 94 Blue Buses orange over 2 years

Or a 9.5% property tax increase like Toronto, lol.

Mississauga could slash the fares down to Hamilton's level, but likely the ridership will also fall down to Hamilton's level (HSR's ridership has not grown since the 80s).

44.7 million riders in 2023 like Mississauga, or 19.1 million riders in 2023 like Hamilton. I think it is an easy choice.

MiWay and Mississauga Council have been a bit more transparent about their plans for the increased funding, so I think it won't be accepted grudgingly by the public.  Yes, a fare increase sucks, but at least I know I will be getting improved service for it.  Now, I just wish they'd release the details of that service change like the Eglinton Express - where, when and what hours?  Or an update on the next MiWay5 plan which got stalled by the Pandemic.  Is it the size of the coverage area between YRT and MiWay that has service levels what they are for the fare collected between both agencies?
