Saw that one. I know some transit agencies lock the foldable forward facing seats on the D40LF buses. It is the first row after the sideways seating where the accessibility space is. Not sure how MiWay Transit buses are setup since each transit agency has different specifications for how they want their seating layout to be between different models.

Most likely someone flew out of their seat as a result of hard braking which led to injuries and even death. I can't find the exact post that responded to a similar situation where a transit agency was locking the forward facing seats that are foldable. Since it has been many years ago.

Get ready for people trying to fold them down and being told "they don't fold down."

Route 11 Westwood has all Mi-Express buses assigned to it (2013s).  Do they do this often...?

The 11 has had MiExpress buses assigned regularly for most of the Summer.

Malton has 10 MiExpress buses (1301-1310) that are normally used on the 104 and 107, but with both routes currently suspended since December, it makes sense to still use the buses elsewhere rather than have them sitting in the garage collecting dust. There are also a number of Malton's 2006 local buses (0601-0653) either decommissioned or having to undergo major structural work which takes the bus out of service for 1-2 months.

That makes sense....  I wonder if 107 and 100 will be restored in September with the return of international travel.

The 107 will be restored in September (see summary below) however the 100 will not. As part of the city's 2021 budget, the 100 and 185 will remain cancelled in 2021.

The following changes will occur for September 6, 2021, which are mostly additional service reductions:

2: Saturday midday service reduced to 14 minutes from 12 minutes (-1 bus)

4: Revised routing to Sherway Gardens via Dixie, Queensway, West Mall, Evans

6: Weekday rush hour service reduced to 25 minutes from 18 minutes (-1 bus)

7: Saturday service between 5am-10am and 7pm-end increased to 38 minutes from 60 minutes

17: Saturday midday service reduced to 17 minutes from 13 minutes (-1 bus)

23: Weekday rush hour service reduced to 20 minutes from 17 minutes (-1 bus)

45: Weekday rush hour service reduced to 17-18 minutes from 14 minutes (-2 buses). Schedule adjustments to evening trips

57: Detour routing via Derry due to Old Derry bridge construction

61: Additional late evening trips on weekdays. Saturday/Sunday detour routing via Derry due to Old Derry bridge construction.

68: Sunday service eliminated

90: Saturday service eliminated

107: Route reinstated on weekdays only, operating all day between City Centre and Humber with 20 minutes frequency

109: Weekday midday service reduced to 20 minutes from 15 minutes (-2 buses)

I am surprised there are still reductions coming as things are opening up more. Restrictions have eased and there will be more students in universities and colleges as well as more people going back to work. Word is that the 11-7 mall restrictions are going to loosen up too so that means most malls will be open longer hours. I can see reductions coming and more overcrowding. As it is I have seen buses with lots of people on them. Especially the 23. Everytime I get on it the bus is fairly full even with people standing.

Are the service reductions a result of reduced revenue?  With things tentatively reopening I would have presumed there’d be more service to deal with the additional passengers.  With schools returning to in-class learning, the high school specials should also be returning?

The 4 SHERWAY detour I believe is a long-term one connected to the Dixie Rd. interchange reconfiguration.  The detours for the Old Derry Rd. bridge will likely leave a significant section unserved as there are few alternate routes in the area. Given MiWay’s budget crunch I doubt they’ll have TTC-style shuttle service for the section of routing that is cut off due to the construction activity.

The loss of Sunday service on the 68 TERRY FOX is likely the result of a death spiral, where reductions in service led to fewer people riding it. I would make more use of it if it has a better schedule.  It already doesn’t see Holiday service, cutting Sunday service wasn’t a surprise.

Just because the restrictions are loosening doesn't mean that ridership is going to rebound back to where it was 2 years ago.

Ridership is has only recovered to about 50% of what it was on the TTC prior to March of last year. It's only about 20% on GO. The other transit agencies in the GTA are somewhere between those two numbers.

I keep seeing buses of the 1001-1020 series leaking water (I think) into the interior. What's the cause of this?

Same, this happen to me recently on one of buses from 1001-1020 have leaking water when I took 109 and it went out of service at Square One asking people who continue past Square One to take another bus.  I don’t know what would cause of this.

Condensation from the AC?

Condensation off of the A/C condensers.

Condensation is part of it, however condensation occurs on the evaporator coils and not the condenser coils.

It's tricky because of the names, however the names of the coils refer to the phase change of the refrigerant that occurs in each coil. When the refrigerant condenses into a liquid it rejects heat to the atmosphere and when the refrigerant evaporates it absorbs heat from the return air and cools the supply air.

The capacity of air to hold moisture decreases with temperature. When return air (transit specs are usually a blend of 70% from the interior, 30% from the atmosphere) passes through the evaporator coil of the A/C it reaches its dew point and transfers that moisture to the evaporator coil in what we know as condensation. The condensed water will then drip down onto a drip pan that is connected to drains to the exterior of the vehicle.

In these days of high humidity there's going to be a great deal of condensation occurring. I suspect that although the drip pan drains may not be completely clogged, they may be partially obstructed with debris and therefore reducing their ability to drain the drip pan. During these hot humid days obstructed drains may not be able to drain the water at the rate it is condensing at off the evaporator. The result? The drip pan overflows and allows water to intrude into the air ducts and the water then drops down into the cabin at the earliest opportunity through the air diffusers located underneath the adracks.

I've heard of a great deal of this occurring on MiWay buses over the last week, including my own experience this morning on 0320 (see picture). I suspect that MiWay really needs to undertake a maintenance campaign to clear the evaporator drip pan drains.

0315 is the latest 03 retirement according to the Ontario Transit Enthusiasts Group.

17/44 Remain in service.

0323, 0325, and 0342 might also be retired according to a post but once again it’s still not confirmed.

And apologies for the triple messages, didn’t expect this thread to be so dead.

Steve Munro has outlined the TTC Service Changes for October 10, 2021 and there's no mention about the potential handover of service on Burnhamthorpe and Bloor in Etobicoke.  Was there a timeline envisioned or are they still trying to work out the details (revenue and cost sharing) including amending the legislation to permit MiWay to provide the service within Toronto?

I did notice a sign at the Kipling Terminal on how stops within Toronto are served.  I've been on more than a few trips where passengers don't realize how the Closed Door policy works and then get mad at the driver for enforcing those rules.  Placing the sign either more prominently in the Terminal or even at each bay might help as would an audio/visual message on board to the effect of "passengers may not exit the bus until reaching Mississauga" which on the 26 BURNHAMTHORPE wouldn't be played until it reaches Islington Station.  I wonder if the change to the Closed Door policy will apply just to the routes replacing the TTC service on Burnhamthorpe and Bloor or if it will apply to any MiWay route operating within Toronto?

I've decided to create an 03/05 Retirement list so everyone's caught up on which 03s has been decommissioned.

If you guys feel like it's a useless list, pm me so i can delete it. If you get word on a retirement or anything like that feel free to pm me with proof so I don't mark it retired if it wasn't confirmed.

It's still being updated.
