D40LF
Kingston Transit is looking at re-organizing the routes again, as well as looking at better ways for people to find information. http://www.thewhig.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1470170
mtltransitguy
I'm heading out to Kingston tomorrow, to do some casual fanning. I can't remember where the idea came from, but I know it's been on my mind for quite some time now as high priority. From what I recall, there are some threatened buses in the fleet, although I have no idea which ones specifically. Since I don't really have a plan, I will most likely just play it out as it goes, which dosen't seem to be too hard to do with Kingston Transit. Too bad the Park and Ride lot on Montreal isn't open yet AFAIK, it would have been cool to park there and then take transit into the city. If anyone has anything that they think would be useful for my trip, please post it even though it's short notice. I'll report back after my trip! -mtltransitguy The Travelling Bus Nut
D40LF
There are still a couple of park n rides, one on the base, the other further down Montreal Street. Threatened buses would be Classics 8761, 8762, 8791, 8893, and 9297. However who know which ones will actually be retired. I'll keep an eye out for you tomorrow, as I will ride the bus, although of course the chances of seeing you would be low! Funny how they aren't on the map!? Okay, I'll be on the lookout for those in particular! Even in a city the size of Kingston, I think you are right! I will be riding the system around a fair bit, but it's been a while since I've been to Kingston, so I am probably going to do a bit of exploring too. Too bad I missed the chance to buy KT Tickets! Thanks for your help!
D40LF
Orion V 9297 was retired in March and is currently sitting stripped at the Kingston Transit garage. This leaves only two Orion Vs still in service (9298 and 9202) out of five (9297-9299, 9201, 9202).
D40LF
New bus update. Am told that the five new International LC buses are due early summer, although we shall see. There are also supposed to be three Flyers delivered later this year.

D40LF
Three of the five are here, 0937, 0938, and 0939. Am told that 0938 was the one that failed. The other two, 0940, and 0941, are expected at a later date. Here is a shot of 0939 at the VIA station on route C earlier today (July 13, 2009) http://johnsbusphotos.fotopic.net/p59541809.html
D40LF
The last two Internationals have arrived, they are numbered 1040 and 1041 (are these the first buses in Canada numbered as 2010s?). Have photos now of all but 1041. http://johnsbusphotos.fotopic.net/p59644677.html - 0937 http://johnsbusphotos.fotopic.net/p59810679.html - 0938 http://johnsbusphotos.fotopic.net/p59810677.html - 1040 The photo of 0939 is a couple of posts above. D40LF
Still no sign of 1041, am told it may not be inservice yet. Am also told that anywhere from 3-5 New Flyers are expected by the end of the year, with another 8 next year. Orion V 9298 was just retired, leaving only one Orion V, 9202, still in service. I saw it today but didn't get a photo (at the time I didn't know it was the last one!) So if you want a photo of a Kingston Orion V better get it soon. wheelchairdemon
Just saw a 30 foot Viva Bus in York Region yesterday and thought it would make a lot more sense than the International buses that are used in Kingston. They look like a regular transit bus and they would be a lot more accessible. I Googled transit for York Region and see there were plans to order new shorter buses from City View Bus and Truck, which sells the ElDorado (http://www.cvbussales.com/axess.html) , so I'm assuming this was it. Is there a reason to explain why the more traditional style of transit bus would not be ordered in Kingston? I find it odd that the International has been chosen over the more typical style of bus. Please help to enlighten me.

YRT has enough cash to purchase a 32ft for long term and routes that hasen't change for many years.
D40LF
Was told that Cutaway 0625 was involved in a serious accident last week. Due to the damage, and age of the bus, I have been told that it will most likely be retired, if it hasn't been already.

Nope, I don't think I saw it today, more like 2 days ago! May I ask who told you it was retired? I can tell you right now that Kingston is starting to run really short off buses and can't really afford to retire others at this time.
