TTC Service Changes

Recommended Posts

No change to the 35 Jane or 36 Finch West schedule. Thus no artics reassignment.

511 finally returns to streetcars. Also 6B is eliminated. The 94B returns to replace the 94C extended route.

The 501 will run on the converted Flexity schedule with buses filling capacity in the busiest hours. The 301 will run every 15 min with Flexity's.

To mention Don Mills for the 51C LESLIE, are they referring to the Donway-Barber Green loop that is used by the 162? Perhaps, it could be a temporary/partial restoration of late evening service in that area since the cuts in 2011.

There's a temporary loop being constructed at the end of Leslie while the intersection is closed due to Crosstown construction.

The main goal is to provide a good connection to Don Mills and Lawrence. A more interesting question is will the 51C become a permanent thing once the 54 is rerouted to Science Centre Station.

The August board service summary is available

https://www.ttc.ca/PDF/Transit_Planning/Service Summary_2019-08-04.pdf

One known change that is incorrect in the summary is that the 511 Bathurst car is to be running all low floor. It currently states that they will be running CLRVs

That is the CLRV headways. Maybe the low floor dispatches are done at division level?

The coupler never mention the 511 either: https://www.ttc.ca/Coupler/Editorial/Special_Features/index.jsp

I'll let the kids post the changes. 😏

Among the changes are the removal of the proposed now-extinct 993 EXHIBITION EXPRESS and the extension of the 176 MIMICO GO to Marine Parade Drive starting August 6.

The Service Summary is correct. Flexities won't be allocated to Bathurst until such a time that there are more than enough to fully convert Queen.

The reason I went on with this assumption is because when the operators signed for the August board period, the crew guides stated that they were to all be low floors. I would’ve signed Bathurst if they were legacy cars. But I signed the latter

The Lake Shore streetcar is coming back !!

Looking at the streetcar changes, the 502 is going to be “temporarily” suspended.

I have this feeling that they might end up making it permanent but who knows. In that case, with only 1 streetcar route on Kingston they might actually get streetcars back sooner rather than later. Not sure, but it could be a possibility for later in 2020.

The 503 could get streetcars back in Spring 2020 when Roncy/Queen gets ripped up. cars from 501/501L/504A/508 will be reallocated to other routes. Will they run the 508 during that time or will it be suspended again? By then, they should also have enough to run the 505 too.

They’ll likely just use some sort of bus tripper service for the 508 or just more 501 trippers.

I’d say 505 gets streetcars before 503, unless there’s still ongoing construction somewhere.

TTC September Board changes:
https://swanboatsteve.files.wordpress.com/2019/08/20190901servicechanges.pdf

Along with the 508 LAKE SHORE restoration, there are some additional changes:

  • Running times on the 36 FINCH WEST are being extended during the LINE 6 FINCH WEST LRT construction.
  • Construction at Sheppard West Stn. will affect many routes and will last until 2021. The Wilson North Terminal is currently unused but they are not willingly to close the entire Sheppard West Stn. terminal for two years. 104, 105, 117, YRT 105 will use the Pick Up/Drop Off area while the 101, 106, 107, 108 will shift to new bus bays. 84/984 will not enter the station.
  • The second gap train on LINE 2 BLOOR-DANFORTH will be eliminated.

I wouldn’t call the heavy modifications and wall to wall stockpiled escalator and signalling equipment in Wilson’s old north terminal unused.

What's the construction at Sheppard West station?

From the TTC Coupler:

Quote

Sheppard West Station bus driveway rehabilitation
Customer impact: Major
Effective date: September 1, 2019
The bus roadway at Sheppard West Station will be closed in phases for approximately 19 months to accommodate roadway rehabilitation. During this construction, some bus routes will operate on diversion. A temporary bus terminal facility will be constructed in the existing passenger-pick-up area. The 84 Sheppard West and 984 Sheppard West Express will operate on-street and not enter the station. The 101 Downsview Park, 106 Sentinel, 107 St Regis, 108 Driftwood and Wheel-Trans services will generally remain inside the bus terminal, but the bay assignments will shift along with the construction phases. The 104 Faywood, 105 Dufferin North, 117 Alness-Chesswood and YRT services will operate to the temporary bus terminal facility.

One would wonder if it actually takes 19 months to pave???

A cement road base takes much longer than an asphalt road base to rehabilitate. Also, given that the buses are built with more body weight, I don’t think the TTC wants to do a half ass job on the station roadway

Only in North America will you see it take 19 months to reconstruct a concrete bus roadway (especially when government money is involved). If this was the private sector the time would easily be cut in half, and if this was in Europe there's no way in hell it would take them over 1 year either.

Did it even take that long to build it in the first place? Even if you broke it down into sections, it should not take that long.

Who would sign off on such a plan?
