TTC Service Changes

No more passenger free layovers on Passmore Ave for operators on 53B. As of Monday, the 53B will extend east on Passmore Ave to serve the Amazon Fulfillment Centre at all times. Also, in order to provide service for early shifts an unscheduled shuttle service between Markham Rd & Steeles and the Amazon Fulfillment Centre will operate to connect with the 353. The shuttle will run between 4am and 6am.

I was wondering when they would enhance service for this new facility as I'm sure a lot of the workers rely on transit and that area is not pedestrian friendly at all. Curious to see if any other enhancements get made in the future, maybe an extension of 102 or 134B to the facility for north-south travel?

I think most of the time people can just connect to the 102 after few stops. Extending the 902 to Steeles would prove more effective for these workers.

Service changes for February 14, 2021. Those are minimal changes:

https://swanboatsteve.files.wordpress.com/2021/01/20210214_servicechanges_v3.pdf

Key highlights:

- The 9 BELLAMY and 913 PROGRESS EXPRESS are rerouted via Progress, Grangeway, Bushby, McCowan, Triton and to the Scarborough Centre terminal. Service on McCowan, Consillium and Corporate will continue to be serviced by the 134 PROGRESS buses. Ironically, the 9 routing alignment was used from 1985 to 1993 and the 913 routing is a replica of the old 171 PROGRESS EAST routing from 1993 to 2001.

- Service reduced on LINE 2 BLOOR-DANFORTH, 509 HARBOURFRONT, 510 SPADINA and 512 ST. CLAIR on weekdays.

Anyone know why ttc rarely adjusts service levels on weekends?

Because over the past 20 years the trend in ridership on weekends has been to rival and sometimes surpasses the weekday levels.

Perhaps in spite of the lockdowns, they are seeing the same trends still in place.

Next board period, 102B will be extended to serve the Amazon Fulfillment Centre as well.

There's barely any actually service charges next board unlike when MtD opened. Besides the 53B (officially)/102B extension.

The 501 will divert via King for Roncy/Queensway intersection construction. The 504C bus will split. The 310 Spadina night service will reduce to 30 min.

What is the current looping of the 6, amidst construction work at the George Brown campus? Today, I was down near the college for a bit and I observed some buses used the regular Dockside Drive looping (using the regular stop that's labelled as "not in use"), while others continued east on Queen's Quay and looped via Bonnycastle, (presumably Lake Shore) and Small back onto Queen's Quay, loading at the 72 stop westbound on Queen's Quay and Sherbourne.

Steve Munro has posted the new service changes for May: https://stevemunro.ca/2021/04/08/ttc-service-changes-sunday-may-9-2021

The 107 York University Heights with the merge 107/117 routing that was seen in the customer survey last fall is going in effect.
The 905A Eglinton East Express extension to replacing the 116A looping is also happening. The 116 will have one branch, the current 116C.

This would be the arrangement what the 116A/E used to look like. In the morning, the 116E operated express eastbound and the 116A operated westbound. Similarly, during the afternoon, the 116A ran eastbound and the 116E ran westbound. The new 905A does that in both directions, unless they would’ve kept the 116A operating in a bidirectional way.

No point in running 116A, as it duplicates 116C service on the common section. A lot of the changes appear to be aimed at reducing duplication of service (such as on the 32 and 34).

His point was this 905A took the same routing as the old 116E.

There is a HUGE point to running the 116A. The 905A will skip the Guildwood community and Morningside below Kingston. Forcing everyone who needs to make shorter trips to get on the same route. This would ultimately leave the 116 very crowded below Lawrence/Kingston to practically empty above Ellesmere during peak hours and mid-day service.

The 116A always comes before the 116C. This is to "force" riders who need to make the shorter trip onto the shorter route, while the 116C can remain spacious and less congested for those needing to make the longer trip above Ellesmere.

Hopefully the TTC will realize this pattern soon after the service change and decide to switch back to the current alignment.

Who are all these riders that actually needs the 116A loop and the Guildwood stops?

Or are you just saying the 116A provides relief to the 116C?

If crowding is a concern, the resources would be better spent on lowering the base headway on Morningside. With this plan, only 1/6th of Morningside customers will experience longer waits, and only 1/3rd will experience higher crowding (which will still be at acceptable levels given what is currently run).
