MAX BRT
The ‘Tesla of bus makers’ arrives in Southern California, as Metro considers buying electric buses Source: http://www.sgvtribune.com/general-news/20170325/the-tesla-of-bus-makers-arrives-in-southern-california-as-metro-considers-buying-electric-buses "Popple said Metro’s offer to buy new buses is one of 38 “requests for proposals” Proterra is bidding on in North America. It already does business in 36 U.S. cities, he said. The company recently shipped its 100th electric bus." . . . "The Union of Concerned Scientists study says a CNG bus with renewable fuel releases 1.8 grams of total emissions per mile. An electric bus releases 0.9 grams per mile. The study looks at tailpipe emissions and upstream pollution that comes from making and delivering the fuel. “Overall, the upstream emissions are still the major component but for electric buses, the grid is getting cleaner,” O’Dea said. Twenty-five percent of California’s electricity grid is from renewable energy. The state is committed to 50 percent renewables by 2030, with zero energy from carbon by 2026, O’Dea said."

MAX BRT
Proterra says they have delivered their 100th electric bus. They claim they have made 60% of total electric bus sales. The spreadsheet that Silley Tilley started for us here recently shows Proterra is expected to deliver 124 electric buses this year (2017) vs. 34 for BYD. San Joaquin Region Transit District (RTD) in Stockton, California, got the 100th bus. SJ RTD now has 12 Proterras, not sure if any are extended range (versus fast-charge buses) Source: https://www.proterra.com/press-release/proterra-continues-north-american-market-leadership-with-milestone-deployment-to-san-joaquin-rtd/

The first of those vendors, Proterra, was selected to provide overnight charging electric buses, which will be operated on routes including the B39 and B32 in Brooklyn. The lease of an additional five buses from a second vendor, New Flyer, with en-route opportunity charging, will be presented to the board later this year. The New Flyer buses will operate on the M42 bus route in Manhattan. These contracts are subject to MTA Board approval as well as review and approval by the Office of the New York State Comptroller." I would think so but who knows? Their CEO has often been quoted talking about the importance of focusing on just one thing for now. That one thing is the 40' foot market in the US.

MAX BRT
Proterra is targeting the airport market and has signed its first customer. (Sure would love to see Chicago Midway get some electric buses.) Raleigh-Durham Airport (RDU) Authority has approved the purchase of four Proterra Catalyst® E2 zero-emissions battery-electric transit buses and related charging infrastructure. https://www.proterra.com/press-release/raleigh-durham-airport-taps-proterra-to-deliver-north-carolinas-first-electric-airport-passenger-bus-fleet/ “Bringing zero-emission buses to airports throughout North America is an integral part of Proterra’s next stage of growth, and we couldn’t be happier to announce RDU as our first airport customer,” said Ryan Popple, CEO of Proterra.
MAX BRT
Proterra Expands its Southeastern Reach as CATbus Acquires its Second Fleet of Battery-Electric Proterra Buses Source: http://www.masstransitmag.com/press_release/12365970/proterra-expands-its-southeastern-reach-as-clemson-area-transit-acquires-its-second-fleet-of-battery-electric-proterra-buses The ten-bus purchase complements the six Proterra buses already servicing the City of Seneca, S.C. that are operated by CATbus. In 2015, Seneca became the first city in the U.S. to operate an all-electric bus fleet and now serves as a model for other municipalities considering all-electric bus transit. Over the past three years, CATbus has played host to transit leadership representing cities throughout North America and Europe who are looking to replicate the Seneca success in their cities. “The FTA likes to see projects that are successful, and with the Seneca project, it's been a total success,” Moody said. “We are building success onto success.”
MAX BRT
More details today on Proterra leasing buses to NY MTA: Five Proterra Catalyst® E2 buses that are outfitted with WiFi and USB charging ports. As part of MTA's fleet, Proterra's Catalyst E2 buses will go into service this December and initially serve routes B39 and B32 in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. The lease program aims to evaluate the combined economic, environmental and performance benefits of deploying an all-electric bus fleet. Over the three-year lease, Proterra expects MTA to reduce 2,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions and save approximately $560,0001 on maintenance and operating costs. The E2 buses are the longest range, biggest battery buses that Proterra offers, and the Proterra website says they can go as far as 350 miles on a charge with the biggest battery. No doubt battery sizes are customizable to suit the buyer. https://www.bizjournals.com/prnewswire/press_releases/2017/09/12/CL84662

MAX BRT
Story in the LA Times today Proterra claims world record, says its electric bus traveled more than 1,100 miles on a single charge Its Catalyst E2 all-electric bus traveled 1,101.2 miles over a test track on a single charge, the company said. The test was part publicity stunt and part demonstration of the gains made in electric vehicle technology. The longest range Tesla Model S, for example, is rated at 335 miles between charges. No one has ordered the test bus, laden with battery packs totaling 660 kilowatt hours of energy. The top-end Tesla battery pack is 100 kilowatt hours. MVTArider
Atlanta APTA Expo Proterra pics for anyone interested. I rode the Catalyst E2 demo between stops at the convention center, seemed like a very solid and nice bus. AC was great on it too! A bit noisy compared to the XE40 though. I was Nova had an LFSe demo instead of a LFS, would've been nice to compare. 4
