R. McConnell Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 Hence, you have LACMTA. That's an excellent example. The case study of LACMTA's San Gabriel Valley routes being spun off into Foothill Transit demonstrates that quite nicely.
Skateboard 5555 Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 There's no a whole hell of a lot of demand for a fuel cell bus. Certainly isn't worth the time and energy if build one if no one is particularly interested in them. Not to mention, if the bus is a failure... it could end up being a negative. So far, I don't believe many North American fuel cells have been terribly successful. We'll have to see how BC Transit's do. It would be like if Orion built a trolleybus for the sake of it. Sure, there are cities operating trolleybuses, and they might be able to get a sale eventually, but the time and effort isn't worth it until there's someone that actually wants it. Mind you, an Orion VII NG would be a sweeeet looking bus. At least trolleybus technology is proven and wouldn't be a failure Orion would be far better of working with other hybrid technologies first! your right. Although the MTA is testing the fuel cell bus in spring 2010 and they will either get the demo bus from New Flyer or Van Hool and let's say if it's successful (which I doubt it would be) they would want buy fuel cell buses from Orion, since there aren't never buy from New Flyer again and will never buy Van Hool so maybe Orion can make Fuel cell buses. But we will have to wait and see what happens.
Skateboard 5555 Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 why does MTA not like NFI? well it's all because of something what happened. In mid 2004 when the MTA wanted to complete the D60HF order, which they couldn't, NFI discontinued the D60HF and the MTA wanted to order more and the numbers were to be 5770-5834, and they order was gonna become the D60LF but the MTA didn't want them because they wanted D60HF so the MTA got mad at NFI and the order did NOT get complete so the MTA will never buy from NFI EVER AGAIN! Also they have tested D60LF in the past like in 1999. http://www.ttmg.org/pages/nfi/nymta-nfie.html http://www.ttmg.org/videos/tlogan/NYCB_NFI_3064T.mov they tested the other D60LF in 2008 In 2008 they tested a D60LF, Van Hool AG300, NovaBus LFS artic, Mercedes-Benz Citaro G, and Van Hool TD925 (the double decker demo bus). Also they tested other buses but there not part of the artic demonstration purposes, they were just other buses and they were Gillig Advantage (a 40ft) ,Prevost Car X3-45 (the express coach). So MTA chosed the NOVABus LFSA to buy and they tested another one in this year in early-mid 2009. http://www.ttmg.org/pages/nova/nymta-novai.html
Board Admin A. Wong Posted November 7, 2009 Board Admin Report Posted November 7, 2009 Interesting, I didn't know about the D60LF or AG300 in 2008. MTA was lucky that NFI produced D60s for them past their "expiry date". But it sounds like they certainly burned a bridge, and now Nova is returning to the US bigtime.

But it sounds like they certainly burned a bridge, and now Nova is returning to the US bigtime. well it was there. They did test a Van Hool Artic in 2006 and another one in 2008. MTA has tested other artic buses before they tested the D60HF demo bus (which is 1001 and currently in service). They have tested MAN AG SG-310-16.5-2A in 1983 (that bus was sold to Beeline system becoming bus# 661) and they did test the Neoplan AN460 in 1993. here's a pictures i saw on bustalk: MAN Artic bus http://gallery.bustalk.info/albums/ripta42...St6-16-74DG.jpg http://gallery.bustalk.info/albums/ripta42...ge6-15-74DG.jpg http://gallery.bustalk.info/albums/ripta42...t6-16-74DG1.jpg http://gallery.bustalk.info/albums/ripta42...St6-16-74DG.jpg Neoplan Artic: http://gallery.bustalk.info/albums/userpic...eoplan81992.jpg here are list of MTA's demo bus from the past: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retired_demon...rk%29_bus_fleet
AlexLy Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 here are list of MTA's demo bus from the past:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retired_demon...rk%29_bus_fleet After taking a look at the demo list, I saw 2006 Nova Bus Artic and then 2008 Nova Bus LFS Artic, the popular 0054.... But I never knew there was an artic in 2006...?!
R. McConnell Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 Interesting, I didn't know about the D60LF or AG300 in 2008. The AG300 was from AC Transit; I don't think it even left the Zerega facility. It definitely didn't run in service.

The AG300 was from AC Transit; I don't think it even left the Zerega facility. It definitely didn't run in service. Correct, MTA engineering was checking the bus on how it builds.

There was second generation demo 190-01, built in 2005. But I wasn't aware it demoed in New York. Has anybody photos of this?

I don't remember if it operated in service or not -- I don't think it did. It was most likely an engineering/mechanical test similar to the AG300.
Skateboard 5555 Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 I found this on subchat: http://www.subchat.com/buschat/read.asp?Id=172146 more Ex-Beeline Orion V has been repainted and they look ready for service.
aemoreira81 Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Also around here, another DesignLine has been released for service---this one is operating in Brooklyn. Attached is a shot of the next one, 1303, on the B43 line.

This bus doesn't look to bad, looks more like a new generation of RTS I'm not in the NYC thread very often, could someone tell if this bus is still being tested, and has MTA made a decision yet on whether we will be seeing these in the future? Sorry for the double post, the post above was moved here.

I would love to see Van Hool in the streets of NY and also I think SEPTA should buy Van Hools as well.

It's not being tested -- it's here to stay. MTA plans on purchasing at least six in total, and two have arrived so far. I would love to see Van Hool in the streets of NY and also I think SEPTA should buy Van Hools as well. But I thought you said in the past that you wanted all future bus orders for the MTA to be from Orion...

I know, But I dobut the MTA would buy Van Hools. I wouldn't mind seeing Van Hools in streets of NY. Also mainly I want the MTA to order Orion, NOVABus, DesignLine and Van Hools ONLY.
Skateboard 5555 Posted November 15, 2009 Report Posted November 15, 2009 I found this yesterday at subchat: http://www.subchat.com/buschat/read.asp?Id=172939 it's a NYCTA Bus fleet and depot update.
aemoreira81 Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Shot earlier this week---53 years old. It's running on the M42 along with 2-3 others this holiday season during the AM and middays until about 2 PM. In 2007 and 2008, it was New Looks. This year, it is GM Old Looks (two 5106s and a 5101) and eventually a Mack C-49.

I remember the writing on the side saying "New York City Transit Authority" last time I saw it. Also the green color seems to be a bit less saturated, but that could be the camera.
Skateboard 5555 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 I read this on subchat and possibly tomorrow Ex-Beeline Orion V may be in service, someone spotted it at LGA Depot: http://www.subchat.com/buschat/read.asp?Id=174360 these Beeline Orion V maybe going to LGA, JFK, Far Rockaway , Baisley Park, Eastchester, Spring Creek Depot. The 1990-1991 TMC RTS, Ex-PBL 1993-1994 TMC RTS and 1993 Orion V will be retired by December. Once Beeline Orion V enter to service, get prepard for a BIG Transfer for each NYCT/MTA Bus depots. Also the MTA is getting 4 Beeline Orion VII as well. Also hopefully more 8600 series go to MTA Bus, which some are at MTA Bus already, then send some of the 1997-1998 NOVABus RTS 9350-9699 series to MTA Bus and then some of the 1998-1999 NOVABus RTS 4900/5000 series can go to MTA Bus as well.
