MTA NYCT Subway/Bus discussion

An RTS or Orion V or New Look has historic significance in a place like New York. The Orion VI does not.

Among the museum fleet there are already five RTSs, one Orion V, and too many New Looks (both GM and Flxible) to count — I wouldn't mind if they saved an Orion VI for the museum, even if only for the sake of variety. Besides, as the MTA has used the Orion VI fleet in numerous promotional events and photo opportunities over the years, it would be difficult to tell from an layman's perspective that they weren't significant in New York transit history.

From one of the New York boards, it was mentioned that 6350, the first of 10 Orion VIs is in the process of being saved for the Transit Museum

Any idea on what they're going to do with them?

I can't remember whether or not the MTA saved one of them for the museum — finding out anything concrete and rumor-free can be almost impossible within the New York transit circle — but it would be nice if they did...

The MTA did save one. The bus #6350 will be placed with rest of the NYCTA's vintage fleet.

Is 1200 the only LFS artic that has the select bus livery?

Yes, and from what I understand, that will be the only LFSartic with the SBS wrap. Reason is possibly due to funding, as the MTA is dealing with a $700 million budget shortfall and will raise fares/cut service.

317 is now part of museum fleet...this bus is a Orion V cng.

Glad to hear they saved it! It should make a good companion to 101 (which I hope they renumber "93001", as was its original number.) The museum fleet should be interesting to see now that it's had all of these recent additions.

For those unfamiliar with the fleet -- 317 is the first Orion V CNG to operate in New York City, first arriving in 1994.

Bus #317 is not part of the Vintage Fleet yet. The bus is in storge at the Eastchester Depot. 317 is to have work

done to it before it takes it's place among the rest of the Museum Fleet. This will take some before it happens.

The ENY Vintage Fleet Services is a complete rehab on 2124, and 303. The shop force will also do suspension

work on 6259. After all of this work is done, they will replace the CNG tanks on 317, and maybe replace the

powertrain back to the Cummins L10G, and repaint the bus to it's original look. I know this because I am the

person the got the ball rolling to save this bus along with 1001, a New Flyer D60HF Artictulated.

Does that mean the ZF Transmission will also be put back to 317?

Very good to save the first artic too.

Just to update...

Orion has given MTA 3 free Orion VII Next Generation HEV. Numbered 4701 to 4703. Orion hit a penalty due to late delivery (every one month late = 2 free buses). In this case, its less than two months.

Ouch! And I know MTA is still not quite happy with the Orion along with tons of teething issues.

Surprisedly, with so many VII with the seal lead acid battery running, it seems to be they may have set a very low capacity to prevent replacement.

Might be the wrong thread for this, but I seen a Long Island Orion VII NG CNG heading eastbound on the QEW by the ford plant last friday (sorry for the delay). iirc, fleet was 1732 (??), but dont hold me to that

MTA 988 (New Flyer C40LF) has a smaller white MTA logo within the front blue stripe, rather than the larger blue MTA logo below the stripe. I wonder if any additional C40LFs are to receive that treatment as well.

The rest of the Nova LFS Artics are slowly being wrapped into (a slightly improved version of) the SBS livery. No front MTA logo fail this time, and side blue stripes are wider. http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/sho...ead.php?t=21000

Also, it seems the MTA is planning to order more LFS Artics by end of the year.

At this time it is still unofficial, but the TA will be ordering about 345 more IIRC. We need them badly, and I think they just wanted to know how the first lot of 90 would hold up on our streets. It's a 99.99% chance the order will be awarded to Nova by year's end.
