Skateboard 5555
Guess what the NOVABus LFSA has the B500R transmission on the units 1200-1201, but the rest or some of future units between #1202-1289 will have ZF Ecolife Transmission according to Trevor Logan Jr: http://www.subchat.com/buschat/read.asp?Id=175733, also it may be possible some may have Voith D864.5 Transmission as well. GET PREPARED FOR THIS! Okay, unit 1200-1201 have ZF Ecolife Transmission, so all 90 NOVABus LFSA will use ZF Transmission.
2044
That model isn't available as such. The black window trim though was kept. The option for flush glazing has become available on a Nova models.
Board Admin A. Wong Posted December 14, 2009 Board Admin Report Share Posted December 14, 2009 DesignLine turbine hybrid buses take off in NYC, could multiply soonBy Darren Murph posted Dec 12th 2009 5:42AM Capstone's CMT-380 has proven that turbines, batteries and an unconditional love for Ma Earth actually can get along within the confines of an automobile, and now it looks as if the same type of technology will be touching a lot more lives in and around New York City. DesignLine, a New Zealand-based company with an "experimental turbine hybrid" of the same name, is currently being used in three buses in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and unlike petrol-powered alternatives, these are said to be as "quiet as a tomb." They're also environmentally friendly, omitting internal combustion altogether and relying on spinning turbines to recharge a Li-ion battery that powers the wheels. If the trial goes over well, 87 more of the $559,000 buses could be ushered into operation, and you'll know one's coming due to the shocking absence of creaking, sputtering and black haze rounding the bend to your stop. aemoreira81
Addition to the above: It appears as if the MTA has finally gotten the sense to have two of the three test in Brooklyn first, as at the garage where the buses are assigned, there are many rough patches on the streets, including the street that leads up to the garage. 1303 and 1304 are both assigned to Grand Avenue. As for older buses here, here is a count as of this week of the pre-1996 fleet: 15 1990-1 TMCs (NYCT-spec, originally 398) 6 1993 BIA Orion V diesel (NYCT-spec, originally 216) 6 1993-4 TMC RTS (formerly privately operated, originally 215) 24 1993-1994 TMC RTS (NYCT-spec, originally 166) 53 1994 TMC RTS (NYCT-spec, originally 104) 85 1994-1996 Orion V diesel (NYCT-spec, originally 231) 30 1994-1995 Orion V CNG (NYCT-spec, originally 31) 2 Nova Bus RTS for a grand total of 221 buses pre-1996, not counting the 1995-1996 Orions purchased secondhand. R. McConnell
1303 and 1304 are both assigned to Grand Avenue. I wouldn't mind possibly running into either of them on the B61 when I come home next week, although that's a not a very large chance. Question: are the DesignLines confined to one or two Grand Avenue routes, or are they allotting them to as many routes as possible so as to familiarize drivers? That will be the B62 soon. I've seen them so far on the B13, B43, B60, and B61, and I believe 1303 has run on the B39.
a.dicion
I know 1200 and 1201 have arrived in NYC. I have recently found a video online, my guess is that 1201 was parked at a dealer to be inspected before heading on to NYC. Enjoy,

Enjoy, I have seen pictures of the MTA NYCT's NOVABus LFSA on NYCTF and subchat. It looks better then the NFI D60 and Neoplan AN460 Artic. Beeline system should buy the NOVABus LFSA also. aemoreira81
Now running for at least this week on the M42, is a Mack C-49. This bus is so bouncy, the bounce may have caused the farebox to break.

All of which will be retired by February of 2010 (next year). As for 2 NOVABus RTS, they are 9142 and 9145. 9145 is the best NOVABus RTS too bad there retired. IF MTA buys Designline, it will replace the remaing old buses made before 1996, but if more Designlines to replace, would it replace some 1996 NOVABus RTS? Since there cloud be more buses that they are ordering.
R. McConnell
I suggest that you ride in the back if you have the time...and hold on. Apparently they replaced the Mack with GM Old Look #9098. I captured a crappy photo of it at 42nd Street and 5th Avenue on Tuesday, but I didn't stick around as it my fingers were about to freeze. For whatever reason, they had the front sign set to "Not in service" even though it did appear to be taking passengers.
yrt+viva=1system
Does anyone have any info on whether MTA sent out a bid for new subway cars to replace the current ones on the 7? I read somewhere that they tested the R142/A and only the R142A was able to reach the third rail. Also on a side note, does anyone know why the MTA's subway trains have a knee-jerking movement when accelerating and decelerating?

yrt+viva=1system
How often does MTA put chains on their NYC buses? I was in New York during that Noreaster snow storm on 12.19 and I noticed that some of the buses had them which is a first for me as I've never seen chains on buses in Toronto. smallspy
...as I've never seen chains on buses in Toronto. That's because the Ontario HTA prohibits the use of tire chains or any similar devices. Dan

This pic is off-center, but it sneaked up on me and I had to rush the shot. Attached is #1200. Prior to this, this number was assigned to an RTS.
