2015 New Flyer XD40s #7445 and #7454 have been moved to Eastchester Depot from LGA for operator training. This is due to the anticipation of the new 2023 New Flyer XD40s coming to MTA bus Company, around 30 of which will be earmarked for Eastchester Depot, giving the bus garage it's first ever new local bus fleet since the takeover back in late 2005.

2021-2022 Prevost X3-45 #1307 is back in service out of CP Depot.

2022 Nova LFS's #8799 and #8813 delivered NEW to Queens Village Depot. Those remaining 2009 Orion 7.501 NG Hybrids from there are about to disappear, which will mean the end of an almost 20 year era of O7 buses operating from here dating back to 2004 (even though the original 2004 O7 OG Hybrids #6425-6489 are long gone) .

While this isn't MTA related, I just wanna point this out:

Plans to build an AirTrain to LGA has been scrapped

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/13/nyregion/laguardia-lga-airtrain.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur

And not surprising, the recommendation is to improve bus service and eventually have dedicated bus lanes constructed.

Realistically though any sort of meaningful rail link to LGA is decades away at best. Resources need to be spent on nearer-term bus improvements, as well as the Gateway tunnels, the IBX, and further improvements to the subway, LIRR, and MNR.

Perhaps once the IBX is built and ridership gauged, a branch to LGA can be considered.

Seeing older pictures and pictures of the mock up showing yellow stanchions.  Was this R211 set originally built with them and later changed out for bare metal?

When it first came to the city, it did have the yellow poles. However, I guess they took the paint off / replaced them with bare metal ones.

Here's the train getting delivered in 2021, and you can see the yellow stanchions: https://youtu.be/iVyMI-qsJc0?t=180

Here's the train in service from last week, and you can see the pole is bare metal: https://youtu.be/XFut0PMrkZM?t=51

Two more R211 cars has arrived in NYC, with more on the way. If the pilot set (#4060-4069) passes the 30-day test, the new sets will start entering service soon after.

Adding to this, #4070-4074 are now in the city, and will go into service with #4075-4079 once they arrive and #4060-4069 finish up with testing.

I am going on a trip for spring break to NYC. Does anyone know good spots to bus fan?

Pelham Bay Park station, Jamaica Center-Parsons Archer and St. George ferry terminal on Staten Island (where the busway exits onto Richmond Terrace) are all great locations with plenty of bus action.  All three are among the last Orion VII hotbeds in NYC also.

I also used to like like fanning along Fifth Avenue, Madison Avenue, and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan near Rockefeller Center. Before it gives a good place for the Orion HEVs, Orion NGs, some XD40s, Prevosts, and a bunch of older MCIs. Now it's mostly XDE40s, Nova HEVs, and Prevosts with the occasional older MCI and Orion NG but it's still a pretty good place imo just go during rush hour for the best action.

If you want some NJT buses as well go to Port Authority and along Dyer and 40th Street usually there are a bunch of XD60s, MCIs, and NABIs coming through there.

You can also catch some Orion 7 action in Downtown Brooklyn as well as around Hempstead Transit Center in Nassau (although, for both of these, I recommend going there during weekday rush-hour for the best results).

Thank you.

Fordham Plaza, Downtown Brooklyn, Jamaica Center, St. George Terminal, and 5th Avenue are all really good spots, especially during rush hour.

In R211 news, in case anyone wanted to see what one of these trains would look like on the (S)huttle or the (Q), here ya go :)

There's currently 121 O7 NG Hybrids left at NYCTA (and 209 O7s left altogether at NYCTA, with SI having the most units (3Gs)). MTA bus Company officially has 101 O7 OG Hybrids remaining, most of which are assigned to JFK/FR Depot(s). BC also has a total of 304 O7 NG Hybrids and 405 O7s over all. Around 615 O7 buses remain in the MTA overall and that number rises to around 675 once you include NICE bus's remaining O7 NG CNGs and O7 EPA10 3G CNGs. All and all, less than 700 O7 buses left in and around the city.

2022 New Flyer XDE40 #9437 is back in service after an accident it had last summer.

2021-2022 Nova LFS Hybrid #9799, delivered NEW to MHV Depot. Only 8 units left on this order.
